Just finished putting the interior back together in my 84 targa. My first project since buying the car mid last year. Wanted to keep it simple.

Looks very nice. Simple but elegant. May I ask where you bought the carpet kit? World Upholstery by chance? I'm planning on doing square weave in my '69 once I finally decide on a color combo.

The carpet kit was made by AIR Motorsports out of Van Nuys. They also did the leather recovering work and stitching on the dash and panels. Very happy with their work, although the carpet kit did require some massaging to fit just right. It is quite hard to get the wrinkles out when laying it over those curves in the back. I wonder if it is any easier with the sliverknit material vs. square weave that I used.

WORD - That interior is perfect! You have made grey look more than attractive the way everything matches. And those seats look oh so comfortable.

Pretty much what I plan to do with my interior, aside from using bucket seats and deleting the stereo. I really like the rs door panels with the OEM angled stitching. Did you buy it that way?

The door panels were the upholster it yourself kit from appbiz. I had AIR Motorsports do the stitching to kind of mimic the original panels.

CCM911- thank you! I was hoping the color wouldn't be overwhelming. In the pictures it is hard to see, but the stitching in the door panels and rear shelf is a light blue. As close as I could get to the exterior color, the carpet also has light blue tones that don't really come through in the pictures. The seats have been wonderful. Drove 500 miles this past weekend and was comfortable the whole way.

Thanks! Didn't even think of them. A friend of mine has them recover a dash in german vinyl and it looked great, especially for the price. I've done perlon RS carpet twice now and it's definitely a PIA to get everything to conform to all of the corners. But I bet square weave is even more difficult given it's thickness and density. You did a fantastic job though.

Alright, I may have come up a bit short from the slantnose interior.

Next up will be redoing the front seats in red/black houndstooth and leather.

I'm digging the square weave carpet. And the door panels. You might be able to use a heat gun to work out the areas in the back. Sweet interior.

Hi Kevin,
Please tell me what you mean about the heat gun. Do you mean the slight irregularities in the carpet? If so, please explain. I have something similar.
Thanks so much,
Dave

The little wrinkles or bumps in the back seat area can probably be worked out with a little heat or sitting the car out in the sun for a while. The heavy weight carpet will likely soften up and flattened to conform to the curves a little better.

I think it looks fantastic as is, but there's that little bit of OCD inside me that would want that to be perfect.

Thanks Kevin,
I think it looks great too.
Would you heat the bumpy area of carpet, then push with a roller or something? I have been curious about the use of heat to smooth upholstery and carpet for some time. Any details appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Probably do that with just enough heat to make it more pliable. If some sort of contact glue was used, it would probably stick down a bit better. Brand new, that carpet is pretty stiff and doesn't want to flex that well. A bit of heat usually helps.
