Greetings from Australia!
Hi to everyone on here,
The usual deal, I have spent hours reading and scrolling through the forum eating up as much knowledge as I could, but procrastinated joining until I got myself a Porsche! Well today changed that all when my "project" arrived on the back of a flat bed truck and into my life. Anyways, enough rambling! About me: 19y/o living in Sydney, Australia Always had a passion for Porsche's but not the means, decided it was time for a project as I have another D/D. About the car: 1968 Porsche 912 Turbo Wide body Turbo Spoiler Unknown Wheels 2.7L 74 Engine Has been completely bastardized by previous owner, the aim is to get the car running and roadworthy first then begin a body transformation back to long hood. Look forward to speaking with you guys and thanks in advance for the many situation I already know your going to help me out of... Cheers, Nico

Hi Nico, Welcome!!
I remember this car for sale. Congrats on your purchase. If you have the time and patience and $$ you can return the car into a lovely SWB 912 keeping the 2.7 engine. Dont forget you can sell the wheels body parts etc etc. There are lots of early Porsche guys in Sydney that can give you great advice. Try to go to some Porsche club events, historics etc to learn and get some inspiration. I wish I had a project like this when I was 19

Welcome Nico,
Best of luck on your project, bet you'll have it un-bastatdized in no time. Look forward to following your progress. Might even see it driving around Sydney the end of the year. Cheers from California, Trevor

congrats and good luck with the project
try and get it all running first and then drive it! you might be surprised how your taste could change as time passes, so don't go spending $$$ on re-conversion yet

Thanks for the advice guys,
Priorities at the moment are to get it running and possibly even a zenith carb conversion (fund depending) if i have issues with CIS... Fresh Rubber is next so I can feel confident driving her... Can anybody tell me what these wheels are? I have searched and searched and couldn't find a thing... Nico |

Hi Nico
Looks like you have a lot of work to do if you want to convert back to a long hood but I wish you the best of luck. Lot of very helpful people on this forum. There is also a regional Australia / NZ section if you feel the need. Cheers Ed. |

Hi Nico,
Welcome to the club, I wish I'd had a project like that at 19. If your looking for inspiration Porsche Club Canberra have a track day at Wakefield Monday 10/3/14 there are usually a couple of long hoods at least! Cheers Bill

Hey, it is going to be a great project. front work is the easiest, two fenders, a bumper, short hood and front nose panel, rear is just a panel and rear bumpers. the hardest part are the rear quarter panels. your will have to cut off the flairs (metal?) and weld on new panels. well on second thought affording all the parts is the hardest part. but take your time, collect the parts, be wise and you can do it. i did it and im old ( and maybe not to wise)

Doh!
Just re-read my post meant to say a couple of "short hoods" as inspiration for you. Either way its a good day out and you do not need to be a PCC member to come along or participate. Cheers Bill

Thanks for the welcome guys!
Spent a few hours removing a lot and i mean a lot of unnecessary trim from the car... He had glued weather stripping directly to the paint everywhere with what exactly in mind i will never know. Will begin interior strip this weekend and we will see how bad the floor pan is! |
