Whaletail questions
I spent this last holiday weekend on a crusade in my garage attempting to find pieces/parts that I can part with since our first daughter is arriving in a couple months. So, I am hoping that someone out there with a little bit more knowledge might be able to verify some info on a whale tail that I am preparing to sell.
The rubber appears to be factory, as it has the emblem. The base body however appears to be aftermarket (fiberglass) as I cannot find a part number anywhere, although it does have the logo embossed. From what I can tell it appears to be the 911/930 style that ran from the late 70s to the early 80s. Any more info / confirmation would be greatly appreciated. This was taken off a 74 911 before it was overhauled with a 89' 3.2L and a new flat-grate engine lid. it is more commonly referred to as a tea tray tail, the whale tail rubber does not have the "upstands"

I doubt that it is factory being all fiberglass, also the mesh behind the grill does not look standard either

Take more pictures. One from the back, with any recessed logo's showing. Take one from the bottom. And finally, take one of the side view.
That will help a lot in identifying what it is.

Yes, the factory whale tail's painted section (not the deck lid) is fiberglass. It is bolted to the engine lid, not a part of it. The black (rubber) portion is bolted to the fiberglass section. The grill is accessible from the bottom side and has been changed to a different pattern and painted. Originally it was a black mesh. This still could be an original fiberglass tail.

This is the 3.3L 930 "tea tray" spoiler. It's about the same size as a "whale tail" spoiler but has taller edges and a bigger base to fit the intercooler inside. It's factory-installed on the 3.3 930's, but I believe it was an optional feature on the Carrera.

That's exactly what I thought it was too, but just wanted to make sure. I know fiberglass automatically raises aftermarket red flags, but the fact that the embossed porsche and crest were there made me think it was factory. Closest one I have found in research is something like this:
though I am thinking that is a bit high in price. Quote:

Yeah I thought it was the 930 tail, closest one I could find was this one:
It was originally on a 74 Carrera |

Thanks for all the replies guys! I figured it was a 930, but just wanted to make sure, there isn't too much out there as far as documentation. It came off of a 74 911, but was heavily modified so you never know. Now just to find where and how much to sell it for, any ideas?

well, you can sell it here in the classifieds and while they used to bring close to $800 years ago, they routinely sell for @ $300-400 now..
