The small vertical link from the lock to the actuator. The ball socket disintegrates. The replacement is cheap and one piece.

add some modern sound insulation material? the stuff on your doors now, what little there is, is nothing more than thin sheets of asphalt.

And you will want to vacuum the daylights out of the bottoms. Also, reach down and I'll bet you will find a ton of loose stuff floating around in there.

I found this when I was mid-project, trying to loosen a sticking window. Good call on the dynamat. I have the old hand crank Windows on a '77 so the info about the window motors will get filed away for the next car.
I bought some dynamat from the local car stereo guy and used 2/3 of a big sheet in the drivers door. Not sure if it made a difference but I feel good about a "while I am in there" chore that was pretty simple. The real solution to my problem, after lubing all the mechanisms inside the door, was to spray silicon lubricant down the window channel. I couldn't believe how simple the solution was - and I didn't really need to pull the panel. Anyway, half an afternoon and I got a solution and everything is back together. Next time I will start with the silicone. |

Yep. The silicon lubricates the window channel material & helps a lot. It also extends the life of it, although it's easy to replace with new.
