Blaupunkt Toronto 420 BT - Installation

Hi All,

In progress installing a Blaupunkt Toronto 420 BT radio, I was hoping to get feedback on a few questions.

FYI - 1988 Carrera Coupe W/O Audio Pack.
  • Has anyone had any interference issues with the stud on the rear of the radio? Mine is fouling on the spot welded bracket right behind the radio, I was planing on trimming the stud with a dremel.
  • Is the DIN cage sufficient to mount the radio, has anyone used the stud in addition to the DIN cage to reduce squeaks and rattles?
  • Any suggestions where to tap for the illumination input?

Thanks All,

Rob

I put the Toronto 420 BT in my 1989 Carrera a few weeks ago. It took me a while to get the deck to seat in the DIN mount. My car has a u-shaped clamp that the back of the deck slid into. I did not hook up the illumination lead. The high illumination setting is fine at night. I bought the auxiliary microphone and mounted it on the top of the steering column.

Here is the Toronto with my instrument lighting. My instruments use ETarga's LED's.

I have one also. It's a tight fit. I wish I had the u piece to support the rear of the unit, because it just hangs from the DIN mount.

Rob,

Once you remove the locknut the stud will float. That should get you enough clearance. There's no need to push it into the head unit completely.

Best, --Peter

Hi All,

I ended up trimming the stud a small amount so that it wouldn't rattle around. Furthermore, I wasn't happy the din cage retention (allowed too much movement) so I made a small bracket which fixed to the stud. Check out the photos below:

I recently installed the Blaupunkt Toronto head unit. I also installed the $20 mic in hopes I would be able to use it for hands free calling.

The head unit looks OEM'ish and it was super cheap. I had it professionally installed.

However, the bluetooth phone functionality is very poor. In fact, even sitting in the car with the car not running (power and accessory is on) people can't hear me very well. Does anyone have the same problem? You can see where I mounted the mic... right next to the cruise control sticker.

I just installed the Toronto as well. Love it! I do not have the external mic and people can still hear me at 50 mph with the targa top off. I still plan to buy the external mic.

I love the BT music streaming.

My only complaint is the lighting is very hard to see during sunny days, even when set to bright.

There is a setting to turn on the external microphone. Mine works fine.

So, I looked and looked but could not find a setting to turn on/off the external microphone? Can you show me?

just had this installed on my 91 c4. now i'm looking at the trim piece around it and thinking about having it painted more of a matte black as the piano black plastic is a bit too shiny for the subdued 964 interior. thoughts?

Hi - did you ever find a setting for this - been through the manual and can't find anything other than the reference at the beginning of the bluetooth section and the installation diagram at the back.

I've plugged a mic in and I'm not sure it is working as I would have expected.
