Right. My car was only 30 min away last winter/spring/summer, but it was hard to be away from it. Must be tough to be across the sea.
Do you know the piston compression? Same goes for the maf. Looks like it is wired into the harness. I wonder how the system uses that info. I know Sal's system involves a completely reprogrammed code so that the MAF can "talk" to the DME. Your MDS system intrigues me, and i admit not knowing much of how they work.

Maf?
I don't know the details of the MAF
This is the system that was installed: FVD LB1 performance kit "Race" w sport catalytic http://www.fvd.de/us/en/Porsche-0/-/-/-/item/item_details/VID_3619694-VCD_82902899-gid_37-sort_4-display_50-item_FVD11007/Tuning_-_Engine_-_Air_Intake_-_Power-Flow-Kits_FVD11007_LB1_performance_kit_`Race`_with_spor tcatalytic_911_84-89.html |

Cool. I am quite ignorant as to products available across the pond. Being in canada, the current exchange rates may be more favorable vs the us dollar.
I will have my MAF by christmas. It does not come with a cat, but is paired with modern injectors. Will be keen to see your finished engine output. Great build. Good luck. |

Overall very happy with the car one year in.
Some persistent gremlins however remain however: most significant there is a steering wheel "shake" that is worst around 60-70 mph. Car does not "pull" left or right. I initially thought it was just a tire out of balance- but had the tires balanced and it was better- but still there- seems to be worse on roads with "seams" (you know bump, bump, bump)...?????? Any ideas? Car does have mild bump steer since being lowered...I'm planning to have a "bump steer" kit installed but really know nothing about them. The other issue- tires. I went with 7 and 9 x16 minilites thinking there would be more tire choices than at 15. Car currently has Kuhmo Ecsta v700 225/45 front and 265/45 rears- I like them a lot (good grip, not too noisy and look right) but they're getting worn. I looked for a replacement set but could only find them on a Japanese website. ã‚¯ãƒ ãƒ›ã‚¿ã‚¤ãƒ¤ã‚¸ãƒ£ãƒ‘ãƒ³æ ªå¼ä¼šç¤¾ - タイヤラインナップ - ECSTA V700 Plan B would be Bridgestone Potenza Re11:225/50 16 front and 245/45 16 rear (I know some people run 205 in the front but they don't seem to be available in the re11's and I'm trying to avoid mixing). So I guess my questions; are the Kuhmo's still available? and would 225/50 be right for the 7's and 245/45 right for the 9's? Thanks |

Bump steer kit is a must on any car lowered.
I know this might sound stupidly basic, but try swapping the front wheels (if the tires are not directional). I've had two cars in the past with alignment and/or shimmy and a simple wheel swap did the trick. Also you may want to consider your rotors. Even the slightest warping can cause your steering wheel to shake, the frequency may be most evident at 60-70 mph. Just my input. I'm no expert and others will likely chime in to offer their advice.

That sounds like a separated belt, usually you can see it by jacking the front wheel off the ground and spinning. You can see the "lump" roll around. I have seen them balance out but still have the lump.

Congrats on a beautiful car. Amazing. Great plan and result. I am sure you can resolve the tire issue.

Are the wheels correctly centre bore located? If not, no amount of balancing will have any effect.

You are definitely on the right track by setting the right height correctly, installing the bump steer kit and I would add a four wheel alignment while you're at it.

Help
When I backdated the car I choose to go 16x7 and 16x9 inch because I thought there would be more street tire choices at 16 than 15. My current tires (Kumho Ecsta v700 225/45R16 front and 265/45R16 rears) have been discontinued and my second choice (Bridgestone Potenza re11's 225 50 16 and 245 45 16) seem to be no longer available either?!?! Toyo T1Rs? Any other options? (I wish now I had gone 15 inch with TB15s- there expensive but everyone seems to agree great tires and at least they're still making them) |

Hey Outlaw911....I'll join the crowd with a pat on the back for your most excellent taste in colors and interiors. Did you resolve the shimmy? If not, do you notice it getting worse and beter as you drive? Changing around long corners? If so, it's the tires. Mine had a similar ssue and it was a minor and impossible to see belt issue. 911 Steering is Soooo sensitive, it doesn't take much. New tires did the trick for me.

Yes, 16" are tricky. I'm tempted by these for our UR Quattro rally tribute:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=P+Zero+Trofeo+R There are also these from Pirelli but probably too big in 16" sizes. https://www.pirelli.com/tires/en-us/motorsport/all-tires/products-sheet/p7-corsa-classic I'm running Toyo RA1 on my street Quattro. I'd run the T1R but I don't like the tread design. Other options: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?zip-code=&frontWidth=225/&frontRatio=50&frontDiameter=16&rearWidth=245/&rearRatio=45&rearDiameter=16 Quote:

Cool car. Nicely done. Where in IL are you? I would for sure go with 15's. They look so much better than 16's on early cars. Those Pack Racing Minilites just don't look right in 16". There are good tire choices too, but not as good as 16". Avon makes a great tire that have the prefect period look.
