85 Targa "build"

Hi Gang

Thought I'd start a new thread since my "new car discussion" thread is no longer an appropriate title

I'm doing a soft build on my targa -- reversible mods that I've always wanted to try.

So far I've added 8" Pegasus magnetic side decals and Martini magnetic hood stripes. I love them!!!

Other than that just basic maintenance including a top refurbishment.

So today I pulled the trigger on a new steering wheel

I'd hummed and hawed over the Prototipo, the Monte Carlo and the Mod 07

Prototipo -- obviously going to work, a bit typical, would need a spacer

Monte Carlo -- feels great, not as sharp a look, pretty period 80s - that's a plus and a minus

Mod 07 - love the dish, hate the yellow.

So after holding them in the car for an hour went Mod 07.

WOW -- I LOVE IT. The install was fun and quick (needed a nearby shop to impact wrench the steering bolt) and I just electrical taped the new connector to the spade - so far so good. I don't love soldering.
The turn signal cancels almost exactly the same spot and the splines lined up exactly for a dead on alignment.

And the yellow - - this was something I figured I could just take off with brake cleaner and then figure out the stripe later. Turns out I really like it. Like a lot.
I trusted my child brain on the wheel and am so glad I did.

Feels good in the hand and suits my legs and seating position very well.

Nice wheel Shaun!
How's the speedometer readability? With my Momo I could only see from 0 to 60 MPH. 70 and up were blocked by the right side of the wheel.

I popped out the speedo and rotated it so I can see up to 120 no problem. Figured that should cover me.

Hey Nick

Thanks!

So far not too too bad - - view is reduced so that i lean my head to get the 60-90mph range -- I can see rotating in the future but today no complaints

Deep dish wheels in Targas are *****in! Aside from it looking the business...you'll get a lot of compliments.

Thanks Merle -- and 911Saucy -- that wheel looks fab! I dithered between suede and leather but I have a seat coming with leather/vinyl so went that way

So I opened a big box on my front porch last week and pulled out my Vintage Seats RS in black with blue corduroy inserts.

This is a pic from when I'd mocked it up before bolting it down -- looks the same either way.

My mileage will be light with it til next year as winter's coming to Toronto but it's not here yet and I've already put on about 500kms since the installation and between the seat (on the lowest front and rear rail heights - -very little rake and it feels perfect) and the mod07 wheel I'm making up reasons to go for a drive every few hours.

My car is pretty sorted for now and in the spring it will really only get more build cues as track days inform me what's my best next $$ (I think my rear Bilsteins may be first to get replaced)

As far as the seat goes -- quality is good, feel is outstanding - I'm 5'11'' and 34 waist - and the look is beyond what I was hoping.

I also pulled the rear seat backs at the same time. - never use them and a few lbs is a few lbs.

So the difference in weight by putting in my sport seat and removing seat backs = 38 lbs -- 13 and change for seat backs and then my original seat was 50lbs and the new one with base and sliders - 25lbs

These are the things I like to know.
