Here's an update:
Rust removal in progress at shop: ![]() Someone had decided to repair it with this: ![]() The passenger side was fine though. ![]() Things are being mended here. The A/C removal is NOT temporary. ![]() There were also thumb sized holes in the rockers where rust had eaten through. ![]() Here is the finished rear windshield area (car is a mess though). ![]() I decided to tackle the rear windshield myself after struggling to find someone to do it. ![]() Success! ![]() My sister was in town and helped me out big time. Side benefit: she now knows how to do rope-in glass installs! |

My work has not been limited to rust and ascetics though. Here are some of my parts after sorting through some PP boxes.
![]() Insulated the interior with ez-cool. This stuff is LIGHT. The whole roll, including the box it came in, was 12 lbs (and I used half of it). The install was straight-forward, I used some tacky spray glue that smelled like "silly string" if you remember that stuff. My rationale was mainly for the heat rather than sound aspect of insulation. You may have seen where I had to discard my rotted interior insulation. A few feet of sound deadener (dynamat) was laying around (from my miata?) so I added that on the firewall. I was not expecting much from it though. ![]() ![]() RS carpet next! ![]()

I had noticed big time hesitation between 3.5 and 5.5k RPM which, from reading these boards, I had pegged as a WOT position switch issue. Before doing any more T/S though, I went through the maintenance I was going to do anyways:
In roughly chronological order: Valve adjustment - Oil + filter Change - S-hose replacement Alternator (V) belt (this is hard if you have an AC pulley BTW, someone should post a "how to" on getting to that pulley nut!) Spark plugs A complete b****. 15 years is too long between spark plug changes. New ones went right in though! Plug Wires - Distributor Cap - Distributor Rotor Fuel filter I did all the ignition + fuel filter at the same time, but afterwards the hesitation was gone completely! I also put my rockers, ducktail, and mirrors back on. The good news is that the mirrors work great! I drove the car 200 miles today, and honestly I was expecting the worst. No issues though, and it ran STRONG! Next up (and in no particular order): Front splitter install Odometer gear repair Bumperette delete Rear Valence replacement Shifter bushing replacement Soft brake line replacement Swepco 201 in Transmission |

Nice work,,,looks like you got the carpeting down nice and flat/factory looking.
Don't add too much to the car...add lightness.

Today I changed the Transmission Oil (my favorite thing about porsches is the specialty lubricants ordered from the internet :roll eyes:
I had a lift. Those plugs were REALLY on there; it took a 3ft breaker bar and a lot of "convincing" to get it off! There was a lot of oil coming out of the fill plug hole, does this stuff expand a lot when heated?? I found a moderate amount of small metal shavings on the drain plug. None were any larger than .5mm. Filled with DELVAC... $60 btw. I also used this opportunity to remove the last AC line from the car. This is the one that goes from the drier to the evaporator. It requires removing the skid plate under the front sway bar. An easy deal but I haven't removed that part before so there was some nice surprises waiting on the other side. ![]() ![]() ![]() I also took a picture of the fittings connecting the through-tunnel fuel lines which were at least as rusty as those brake line fittings. For some reason that picture did not come out. My heart sank when I saw it though. What do you think, would you take this p-car off the road? Thought I should end on a high note, so heres one for motivation.

As a Pelicanite, I'm impressed. As a Dad, I'm REALLY impressed.
You might also want to mention that you found the top of a spark plug broken, which might have caused the hesitation.

I see what you mean. You have a later year rear reflector. Mine has the "PORSCHE" in black. I think all red would look great!

![]() Finally back on the road! Last night I took care of remaining tasks: - Valve job - glued passenger carpet and installed fire extinguisher mount - put the passenger seat back in - got the bumper trim on - troubleshot the blinker problem - corrected my steering wheel placement - short test drive! Today I just washed it and checked my new brake lines for leaks, couldn't see any! I found some twisties nearby and listened to the 3.2l soundtrack.
