Should I/How to - Clean inside splines of Torsion Tube

Took my rear torsion bars out - if I look inside the tube, it looks pretty clean, but at the splines looks like some gunk... any reason to try and clean it up? how would I even get in there to clean it without messing things up?

Bottle brush on the end of a long dowel?

I would not focus on cleaning as much as I would getting enough fresh grease on the torsion bar.

Don't worry about it.

I would be a LOT more concerned about the outboard end of the torsion tube. It looks like the cup has rust holes in it.

I think what you might have thought was rust was just dirt/rubber... cleaned it up a bit.. still looks like some brown stuff, but doesn't seem like rust...

I made a giant "Swab". I just took a white towel and taped it on to a long 1" dowel. Swab, change the towel, repeat. I think I sprayed some brake cleaner on it. It took several iterations, but it worked well.

Friend had me take over his project car. Torsion bars were sticking out of both sides like 30mm. Pulled them and found sand and grit in the inner splines. Used a brass brush on a dowel to clean and then vacuum out all the particles.

A little heat on the center of the tube helps if it’s not covered with chipgaurd.
