993 Intermittent Horn

I replaced the car battery (Duracell) and there were no issues.
A few weeks later the car horn would sound off intermittently. Usually, when I apply the brakes but, it is random. For now, I removed the horn relay.
Any suggestions appreciated.

There is a metal bracket behind the horn pad which flattens (for lack of better term) and weakens over time. So when you have a G load on it from braking or hard turn it will trigger the horn. You can access it by taking out the two or so bolts from the back side of the wheel. I don't remember where I bought my part but they are out there.

I do remember that there is a year or VIN breakdown and the parts are slightly different. So make sure you have all relevant info when ordering part.

Pretty easy re-install. I would either unplug airbag or disconnect battery. Your choice.

Also, search the 964/993 forum. There is a thread on there for this issue.

Hope this helps.

BTW, when mine went it caused a few anxious moments when some rather large Hawaiians thought this Haole was being rude towards them. Yikes.

Zims Autotechnik sells replacement bushings which is where I got mine (took me all day to remember). Anyway, they were an easy replacement and about $12 each. Slightly more expensive than the Youtube video suggestion but exact fit to the bracket.

The bracket has been superceded with a new part number that also requires new airbag, which was my problem when I ordered a new bracket that did not fit.
