Valve cover cleaning
Just removed the valve covers while doing a valve adjustment. The cover s are really dirty and greasy. I was going to clean with Simple Green but I don't think this is the safest on aluminum. Any suggestions?

Here is a post in which a member used some dish washing liquid with simple green. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-engine-rebuilding-forum/850759-excellent-part-cleaner.html

What would happen if you used brake cleaner?

you'd use a lot of brake cleaner, it smells bad, it can't be all that great for the environment and you inevitably end up breathing the stuff. Flip side is it's probably pretty effective and fast.

there are so many things you could use. during my rebuild, I used, mineral spirits, brake parts cleaner, simple green...hell, I even put parts in my dishwasher. my wife thought I was nuts but she knows what she bought into.
