Suggestions for type of paint- flapper boxes ?
Flapper Boxes on the car (SC) are rotted/crispy, and is a slow boat to China getting them off. Very afraid of snapping the little studs. Its taking forever....
However, I do have a set in really decent shape to swap in, if the existing set comes off. Whats held up for you guys through the years ? POR15 ? Rustoleum heat temp ? Regular Rustoleum rust cap ? Doesn't matter they rust out anyway ? HAHA Thanks ! Last edited by J. Perrault; 02-03-2016 at 07:28 PM.. |

POR15 would be perfect.....I've used it in spots like that...I even painted an engine block with it and it lasted for years (sold the car so no idea)....it can take the heat.
p.s....just be careful you don't paint it and allow it to lock up...the stuff is like cement.

You should be able to slide off a clip and washer from the shaft of the flapper, and then pull out the shaft. This will let you paint the shaft, flapper, and body separately and avoid having anything lock up.
You can also buy hardware kits, including cable guide tubes and clamping screws. Pelican has them, so does Stoddard's. Mark

I completely disassembled mine and painted everything with high-heat engine enamel. No issues.
