dreamsonwheels is having a REM sleep experience if they think a gifted tech would even get out of bed for $12 HR. more like $25 to start, plus commission.

Thanks John...I wondered about this post. But heck, I'm only one of those who pays for skilled labor. But gosh, if I was a truely skilled Porsche wrench? All the beach bunnies in Florida wouldn't be worth taking a $12 per hour job...

Let's see.....no pressure, flexable hours....this guy isn't too serious about making any money so he can't afford more than $12. Or, he's looking for an apprentice to wash rich poeple's cars while wearing a mechanics' uniform.

I could do that if I get to drive them over the weekend. Can you say DE?

And that's not bad hourly rate for Florida. It's all relative.

I did not say a Porsche mechanic, did I.

And also what does starting mean???

If a mechanic gets comission on the cars he works on - gues what happens?

Thanks, harold

hey $12 an hour works out to $24k a year, no pressure means you get to keep anything you find in the smuggler's box!

and he didn't say gifted PORSCHE mechanic! A gifted mechanic can be someone who works on lawn mowers and outboards. Or one that goes to school in a little bus (tongue in cheek!)

Perhaps so, Mike...and think of the beach bunnies in Florida. But I'd suggest you research the true cost of living there as well...

It would make no difference whatsoever whether he meant Porsche mechanic, skilled techs make similar $$ regardless of the make of car they work on. Actually, biggest $$ around here is being made at busy dealerships, Toyota, Ford, etc. $100k+ is not unusual for top producers. For $12hr. in L.A. you get a laboror who does not possess the proper documents to work legally in this country. I realize that the cost of living may be cheaper in Fla., but come on, it's not 1978 for chrisakes!

Even out here in South Africa my tech comes at the equivalent of $75 an hour. I suppose his assistant who takes out the oil drain plugs and operates the car lift will work for $12/h.......

Florida has some of the most unbelievably low wages paid anywhere in America. Being primarily a 'tourist-driven' economy, the majority of jobs seem to be hospitality-related, state, etc. and they ain't payin' much. In his defense, if he's living somewhere along the coastline in a small town, the average person is probably making ~ $8/hr. Florida seems to have a small middle class...a great number of really wealthy types and lots of poor folk in the mix. The price they pay for summer year round!

Yep, just went back and checked the location, New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Very pretty place and just down the road from St. Augustine...a town I used to live and had in mind the minute that I read his post.
