Thumbs up Luftgekühlt & Pelican Partner for Special Build Project

Luftgekühlt - An Air-Cooled Porsche Enthusiast's Dream Event, 4/10/16, Los Angeles
**Location announced - It's Modernica - just south of downtown LA!** Click HERE for details.

That's right! The Luftgekühlt team is building their first-ever project car and Pelican is proud to support the effort with components and tech assistance! A combination of OE and performance aftermarket products will be installed as the build takes shape and we'll cover every moment so make sure to subscribe to this thread! The final result will amaze you - we know we're excited!

In this build thread we'll detail the installation of key components from:
  • RENNLINE
  • WEVO
  • ROTHSPORT
  • PMB
  • CLEWETT
  • SWEPCO
The subject car is rust-free, straight, extremely clean, well-cared for and ready to evolve:

A large amount of the work will take place under the guidance of Joey Seely of e-motion engineering. You may know Joey as Project Nasty's owner and builder. Upon initial delivery to e-motion, the engine, trans and suspension are removed:

As the build continues, the car will receive very special fab work starting with this beautiful cage:

Our Porsche specialist, Casey Gervig, gets a close look at the progress along with Joey on a recent visit:

The outgoing tired suspension will be replaced with lighter and stronger components:

So much more to come, this is just the beginning, so stay tuned as we update this thread with coverage of specific component installation/fabrication, video and plenty of detailed pictures!

Cool. Since the car is now public I guess I can reveal that I've already shipped them some gearbox parts. Great to see Pelican involved. This car is gonna be awesome.

Nice! The word getting out now...!!!

i've been using Joey for 3 years for my chassis work (he started back on 993 or 964 RSR race cars)... he's a suspension magician.

He just finished the chassis on my 964 (and setup my 89 911, and my RS)
My 964 C2 Transformation Build Thread - Rennlist Discussion Forums

Have had a chance to see the build a couple times.... this thing is going to be sweet!

It takes someone who knows their way around welding aluminum to fill those holes in the rear bumper, but, it does look so much cleaner without those big heavy buggers standing out back. After removing them on our '80 SC, I was rear ended out on the freeway by a Ford F150. We both pulled to the shoulder, got out, looked at the bumpers, said what a nice day it was, and continued out journeys. Nada, not a scratch, not even a blemish on the paint. Those aluminum bumper/shocks do a great job of protecting the 911.

A decade ago when I bought my '88, Jerry Woods told me not to mess with the motor, but build a "killer" tranny around third and fifth gears, using the G50/10 close ratios for first, second, and fourth. He said that it would unlock some really sparkling performance.

Never got around to it (money), but I'm curious what will be used here -- more of a "rally" gear set or a close-ratio?

Can't wait to see the finished product.

P.S. Wonder what GT would charge for those G50/10 cogs...

Are all those suspension pieces off the shelf or are some of them custom made by Joey? If off the shelf where can they be found?

This car is keeping it's original 915 gearbox. It's getting my 930 Pro LSD and some strength upgrades. Joey and I spoke about a short ratio ring and pinion but at this point they haven't gone with one. I don't think they will need to when it comes down to it. Project Nasty has one, but that's a different sort of beast.

G50 5spd gears are $1200 each for 3&4. 5th runs $1050. 915 gears are quite a bit less expensive at $825 a pair.

Regards,

Matt

Matt sells cheap horsepower!

I owned a 2 liter 67-S that once belonged to Bruce Jennings. It had a factory "Hillclimb" setup (A,E,I,O,U) with LSD. It was a "quick" car with no top end speed but it was fun, fun, fun and one of a few cars I've owned that would easily pull redline in 5th.

Some great wheel travel, which means lots of compliance via our friends at Emotion Engineering. Getting some work done on the Luftgekühlt project car.

What shocks (Dampers) are you using and is there any frame reinforcement beyond the cage?
