Color accent recommendations
I have a 67S that I purchased in full race mode. Converting it to a street outlaw. The car is currently painted in Signal Yellow. Thinking of doing accent color on both bumpers and maybe painting the hood in a satin black.
What color would be a great accent to the signal yellow? Orange, Grey, Black......? OF course the base accent color will need to be tinted to accent the signal yellow. thanks

any idea what the color was prior to signal yellow?
It's such a bright color, i'm not sure anything else would go but black really. I saw this picture while looking for what "signal yellow" looked like, thought it was cool.

I feel like color choice combinations are where Porsche enthusiasts are lacking. I've been thinking of creating some examples to illustrate what's possible while maintaining the accepted 901 aesthetic. I'm not talking about wild paint jobs, but rather the magic of color combinations, ratios, psychology and the utilization of how our minds perceive color. Elegant subtlety is the answer.
Yellow and black are "safe" and by that I mean boring. Nothing says "the short bus" louder. Yellow red/orange says: Do you want fries with that? The fast food industry uses this combination to make people feel uneasy and leave to turn tables faster. Psychology is important. Yellow is a spectacular color and an amazing opportunity. |

Little hard to see in this poor picture but the main stripe is orange with a small yellow and red stripe along side the orange.

Disregard cab and coupe below. A Britto-done car compared to a single color car. I happen to admire Britto's style but put it on a Porsche and the design of the car is lost... which may well be the owner's goal. If so... mission accomplished. The single color car by comparison... the eye can look over the form and the lines are retained only because the planes and panels of the car are not chopped up by different colors. Shadow & highlight does change the color but in doing so provides depth & reflection which gives form. The lines of a 67 are classic by default at this point in time. To muck them up with different colors is---now comes my personal opinion---insanity. Surly I'm a purist when it comes to color. ![]() Best with whatever you choose to do! ![]()

I like red with yellow. classy but not too predictable.
The red bumpers on Faverymi's example look good. You could tie the front and rear red bumpers together by having the "porsche" side script colour matched (keeping the stripe black or grey, even if it's a little singer'esque.) If you're really daring, throw some gulf or martini blue in there somewhere.

I have never really liked multi-coloured cars, and in the very near past, I would have agreed with Discseven as I also believed that a break in colour destroyed the overall form and lines of any Porsche. BUT (there's always a but), I must admit that very slowly and unsuspectingly I have started to become attracted to 911s with interesting combinations of colour.
I didn't want to like it, I don't even know how or when it happened and I almost took out a prescription to stop these evil thoughts; but this Magnus Walker car may have been the last car I looked at before I fully gave in to the temptation. I am now joining mrm930 in the difficult task of adding a second colour onto my 911, an inspiring canvas in GP white.
