I decided to abandon the testing and repair of my clock for now. I think the stepper motor is indeed bad.

of all the parts ive been able to find for this clock, the motor isn't one. unless someone knows where I can find it, im just gonna chalk the clock up as a loss and leave the blanking plate in its place. not like I can see the clock with my Rennline magnetic cell phone holder anyways lol.

The stepper is not a replaceable part. It is plastic welded and integrated into the movement. The complete movement needs to be replaced and unfortunately they are no longer available.

Yea I figured. Another reason why I’m gonna abandon it for now.

Unless whoever did the AA battery movement conversion can show me where they got the movement from, I’m just gonna leave the clock out for now.

I have the same broken gear, but when I touched it, it crumbled into many more pieces. Where did you find a replacement? How much was it?

I was able to fix the stepper motor. It was a PITA, but it works now. I had a broken wire near the solder pin (my own fault as described by someone else in this thread). I drilled out the two brass rivets, carefully tapped open the motor, unwound 1 winding to get enough wire to strip and resolder, and then put it all back together.

The first time back the motor shaft wasn't turning freely enough because one of the tiny metal tabs was slight bent in, but I opened it again, bent it ever0-so-slightly away from the shaft and pit it back together. Now it spins freely, and runs under power from the board.

The last thing I need to do is find a replacement gear. Waiting to hear from anyone in this thread for where they bought theirs.

You need to count your teeth to figure out which ratio to buy, but this is the company that makes them. 20:30 is common.

Those are odometer gears in your link. This is a clock thread, and there are no clock gears on the site.

Depends. If randomly works for a while then stops, less likely caps, but if works for a while after driving, then more likely it's caps. The latter is the scenario mine exhibited, and replacing the caps (audio quality nichicon) solved the problem. It's been dead-on balls accurate ever since.
