Car looks great! Love the color and the ducktail really works well on your car!

I am very afraid of getting rear ended here in NJ. It seems drivers are either on their phone, drinking coffee or smoking a cigarette. Sometimes all three at once! So I did two things this past year. First, I installed an LED strobe flasher for the high mounted brake light. It REALLY grabs the attention of drivers.

Then, I installed a contact switch for the brake lights wired in so that if it fails, the pressure switch still works. It is perfect and I can now tap the brakes to light up my strobe, whereas before it required actually braking before the lights came on.

My description of what I did and what I used starts on post 22 of this thread:

Where did you source the flasher module and light?

This is what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T2P1TWC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I had to open the plastic case and take out the board inside because the case was too big to fit inside the light housing, but the board only fit nicely. Alternatively, you could wire it in somewhere else without taking the case apart, but it was easier to wire with the board right in the housing.

The LED was purchased at the local autozone. Its just an LED bulb, not a PCB assy. They are definitely brighter than the stock filament bulb and drop right in to the fixture.

Car looks great!
I'm taking mine in for a couple of rust touch ups and I hope it turns out as well.

Please start a thread on how you did this.

I also installed a flasher module and LED light bulb on the third brake light on my '86 Cab. I installed the module in line on the wire running under the rear spoiler to the brake light. You need to use an LED light bulb since the incandescent bulb reacts too slow to the flasher. Since I installed the flasher last year I have noticed other drivers leaving a little more space behind me and braking earlier.

It's been a while since I last posted. And this is why!!!! On June of 2017 this happened!

Two freakin months after getting my car back, I was rear-ended yet again by some total idiot.
Hit hard enough to push the engine forward, break the transmission all to he!! and just mess everything up beyond reasonable repair. It was totaled. I was crushed to say the least. My "Dream Car" was dead!
Final payout for a 1998 Commemorative Edition 911 with 200K+ miles...................................$58,000!!! It took a little work and a high value appraiser, but I wasn't going to complain when they finally gave me the figure.

But due to life, the proceeds were used to complete the rebuild of our rental unit/barn on our property in Morgan Hill, CA. We then cashed in on California and relocated to Excelsior, Minnesota. About 20 minuets from downtown Minneapolis.

Now i'm looking at 964 C2 or C4 to replace my Carrera.

So if anyone has any input (things to look out for) on these models, please let me know.

I'm also looking for any leads on wrenches in Minnesota/Wisconsin.

Thanks Guys!

Dang sorry to see that you lost your car Arerrac. Just curious, initially you mention that Allstate presented you low cash value and wanted to total the car out ($27K). The high value appraiser, that you mention, is that through Allstate? Or someone independent that you hired? Good info to know just in case. Good luck on your new car search. Thanks.

Today I worked on a 33K mile 1986 930. The brakes lights would only activate with a two foot monster press on pedal. The customer actually came in so I could show her that her master cylinder pressure switches needed replacing and wasn't just snowballing her.

If you own a 911 with this type of switch please check it! Not even very hard or expensive to do.
My 87 was like this. Have no real idea for how long. I now check this regularly on all my cars. Usualy when I get in an before I open the overhead door.

Second incident was handed by Mercury. I had to insist on a high value appraiser. They supplied the appraiser.

First incident was thru Allstate, and I again had to insist on a high value appraiser. They too supplied the appraiser. Both were independent.

That is unreal. Glad you made lemonade.
How did you tell the body shop react?
They must have been crushed also, after all that work for naught!

This is not unusual. One thing we must remember always is that other cars cannot do what these cars can do. I went around a fast moving pickup one day in a 50 mph location (four lane road), then stopped at the red light. His vehicle could not stop and my 911 was totaled. That was a nice car.

Now I am loving a different 911.

The 964 Forum on Rennlist is a great resource for anything related to a 964.

Sorry you lost your 911 in such an unlucky circumstance but it seems the 2nd time high value appraisal did not take diminished value from the first repair in his valuation as $58,000 seems very acceptable right? He could presumably have just looked at the Carfax?
Just out of curiosity I am wondering did you make a separate claim for diminished value to your 911 after the first rearender happened?
