Using 923/02 trans in a 911?
I thought I purchased a 915 transmission for my 1973 911T build, but its actually a 923/02 transmission for a 1976 912. Here is some info on the 923/02
The Porsche 912E Registry I'm posting to see what you all think about having this transmission modified to work in my 911 or should I sell it and find another 915 trans. This transmission was listed as Tested but not rebuilt. I have not tested it myself. The biggest difference that I can see is the mainshaft and clutch guide tube. I'm not sure what it means that the "clutch operation" is different. However, the 7:31 R&P is attractive since this is for an early car. What do you think? |

Use it. Easy to modify. I think this has the smaller 901 size mainshaft meaning you can put a type 911/01 (70-71) 225mm clutch plate under your 915 pressure plate and flywheel and you are good.
I don't recall on the cable linkage. Probably has the simplified lever arm like an early 72-74 915 has.

It's a push clutch trans, so needs a '69 style clutch/flywheel. Then you have to sort out CV joints/flanges, size-wise.

I would have to double check, but I believe that the 912e used the same coarse spline style that was found on the 72-73 915 gearboxes. Whatever it has, it's not rocket science to make it mate to your car.
That gearbox is basically geared like a 73RS. It's a great little box.

Thanks John for the clarification.
