My 77 911S

Hi all! 1st post, 1st 911.

Its pretty much the usual story. Growing up with 911īs on my walls. Education an family being the number one priority, pushing car dreams into the grown up years. Iīm soon turning 47 and last fall finance and timing started to look good. Been looking for cars on and of for ever, but now I started with purpose. Found Pelican Parts and Iīwe been lurking a lot. Grate site! Anyhow. I was primarily looking for SCīs, as that seemed the most likely price point to find what I wanted. Wanted something fairly original. A solid, but not a showroom car. A car to be used regularly. And may be a few years ahead restore if needed. If somebody only a month ago told me I would end up with a 1977 2,7 911S, upgraded with 964 bumpers and 18" cup wheels I would... Not sure what I would have done, but I certainly would not have believed it. The 80īs cars have always been it. I was scared from the horror stories of mag cases and broken head studs on 2,7īs. But then this thing shows up. Price was good, all the original parts followed the car. All the right engine upgrades documented. Seemed like a solid and well looked after car so I went for it. Before seeing it in person I was set on bringing it back toward originality. But after piking it up, I love it as it is. Not changing anything just yet. Just going to drive it and enjoy it. That is, I have to wait about a month to do so. Its winter and I cant drive it home yet. So its parked in a friends garage 750 miles away. I look forward to that drive! It was raining when I picked her up and there is no heating in the car, so it got a bit steamy. Got to drive around for a couple of hours, and it was glorious

Andreas, Norway.

I have to say, it's looking good with those 18" wheels.

Have you had a chance to put it through the paces and see how it handles?

FYI: 1977 is a "transitional year" meaning there are unique conditions combining technology of early cars, early mid-years and the later SC's. What this means is that when you want to post a question about the car, best to include the year in the thread title, just a helpful tip.

Transitional Year = Bastard Year

You might see that written sometimes.

Welcome to the club.

EDIT:
Is that still a true narrow body, or did the previous owner add SC or other rear wheel flares?

Haha. I was considering the title; My 911S bastard. But that was due to the 964 parts. Nice to know its a true bastard

Its got fiberglass flairs. Not perfect, but ok. Sunroof is welded and somewhat visible. May have to learn some bodywork later on

Only had a couple of hours in the rain, so not the best conditions to push things, but everything seems sweet. Few tweaks needed, but nothing major so far. Sounds awesome. SSI and 964 sports muffler. 2 in 2 out. No drone

Another pic:

Cheers

A real beauty. Looks pretty low; be careful going over steep driveways.

Looks great, and you are going to love it. If it does not have SSI on it that should be the first thing you do to the car. I have a 77S that had headers on it with no heat and put the SSI on it and got a nice bump in HP because the headers were too big diameter wise.

The best thing about our midyear cars is I think we are free to do what we want and not hurt the value of the cars. The carreras and the SC in great shape are fast becoming collector cars that become garage queens.

Cool car!

What does the interior look like?

I don't know, it looks great.

But you could keep the original motor, then hot rod the heck out of it too.

occasionally.............things come together and are greater than the sum ofthe parts........your 911 is a good example of this. don't change it.

Thatīs my feelings exactly. Putting 90īs parts on a 70`s car never even crossed my mind. But when I saw this, especially irl, it just works. At one point while searching I got hung up in a couple of colors I didnīt like as much as others. But I realized there are three things needed for an old 911 to look good. It needs to have wheels filling the wheel wells. It needs to be low. And it needs a ducktail (especially that one I know is personal, so just MY opinion here ) Check those boxes and the car visually is good to go

This one is borderline too low, but I had no problems on the test-drive. Speed bumps and a fairly nasty ramp, up to the garage was no problem. I think I may try it about an 1/2 inch higher in the front. But I donīt think I need to.

A good day! Wonīt be able to pick up the car for another week, but its been parked next to a well reputed air cooled Porsche dealer the last month. Decided to let them go over the car. Idle when cold was not good. Turned out fule pressure was low and fuel pump had seen its best days. Had it changed along with some dodgy fuel hoses. Had them change the oil and filters too. So now its all good and ready for the long trip home. Just a bit over a week to go About 350 miles, plus a long boat ride. Not risking the last mountain pass on the way as winter doesn't seem to let go quite yet.

Have been thinking about wheels though. Thinking a lot about wheels. I think i need Fuchs (Replicas of some sorts) with a bit more sidewall. Want more of that 70īs racer look.
Something more like this:

Not quite as low, but you get the idea...?

Can't go wrong with the RSR finish on Fuchs or Fikse or Braid or even Euromeisters.

Euromeisters are high on the list, but shipping from our host to Norway is expensive!
