Today I bit the bullet and tried to do a teeny bit of body work. In another thread I presented the problem. My driver door hinge stop was broken and over the years the bottom of the door got “sprung” where the leveraged force bends the edge of the door out.
I tried but the hinge was already all the way “in” see registration marks.
So after consulting the brain trust on the thread

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1137278-door-juts-out-bottom-new-post.html

I gave it a go.
First I tried a piece of wood but it was too soft. Second I used a thick plastic trim gadget and aligned it with the face of the protruding area. I hammered and hammered, checking every few swings. Here is where it ended up. Only one small ding in the paint on the very edge which I already touched up.

Registration marks

Pre hammer

Where I placed the plastic force distributor

AC saga continues

Only when it is 100 degrees outside! The continuing saga of cooling an '88 in New Orleans. Yesterday I was troubleshooting my AC system. The compressor was cycling off despite 100 degree temps and 95% humidity. Vent temps around 75 degrees. After adjusting my evaporator probe placement and testing coolant pressure, I decided to add a half can of R 134. The engine and garage were both super hot but the pressures weren't in the red so I put a half can in and KAPOW!!!! The Kuehl hose that connects the compressor to the deck condenser blew right out of its crimp!!!! Talk about a massive messy explosion. Gladly my face wasn't near the area because r134 and oil spewed everywhere. UGHHHH!!!!!!!

The hose / crimp is out of warranty of course

I have been replacing this system bit by bit with Charlie Griffith's parts for years, but I can't afford the labor involved in adding the 2 additional fender condensers he suggests. I already have a new denso compressor (twice), replaced hoses with all Kuehl barrier hoses, new blower motor (twice), Kuehl hurricane evaporator motor and squirrel cage and box, and extra vents.
I guess the last intermediate step I am going try is to buy a new Kuehl front evaporator and Kuehl front and rear condensers. Another 1600.00 bites the dust - hopefully I can do all of the install myself and just have my wonderful mechanic Mike Nausourra (thanks user #drjon4u2) recharge the system at the end.

Hi Queen,

Wow, what a mess, hopefully you get things cooled down soon and before your pocket book gets exhausted!

Best,

A near accident is a good reminder to us all of us to be careful when dealing with potentially dangerous tasks! Glad you just got to test your heart rate instead of getting injured.

I have not seen stickers yet, when did you send them?

Were you using an AC pressure gauge? I always refer to a temperature/pressure chart for high and low target pressures. Also, remember to keep your decklid closed as much as possible so cooling air continues to move over the condenser.

I was. I was near the edge of the highest tolerable pressure for that temp , but not yet in the “red “ zone. My deck lid wasn’t closed enough. My tubes to the gauge and can are short and so I think the lid was too far open to draw air correctly.

I am so mad!!!! My outgoing neighborhood mailbox is being investigated. NONE of my stickers that I sent out were delivered. Sorry guys. Will reprint them and remail next week - arghh. Makes me wonder what else didn’t go out.

Today with my ac hose fixed after being on the interstate for 30 min this was my vent temp. No kidding.
It is 1000000000 degrees F outside - can’t wait for august (not). Waiting for my new evap and condenser from Griffith.

Ouch! I also would check that there isn't any small amount of heat coming through the heat exchangers too. I have an earlier car, and in the summer I block off the air horns on the engine shroud that feed the heat exchangers to totally stop any heat, and to direct all the cooling air to the engine. .

I do feel hot air coming thru the vents when all the fans etc are off. I have only dealt with the heat exchangers on my older car. Are the newer heat exchangers essentially the same? I can probly get under the car tomorrow for a look. Would explain the super hot air coming from the vents. How do you block the air horns?

Check that your heat and defrost jobs between the seats are full down, this should open the heater valves to dump the hot air and block off the heat tube to the vents. As they age they can get stuck, you may have to get in there with some lube and cycle them. Had heat coming in on my 88 and after some clean up and lube it is fine now.

I disconnect the hoses from the air horns, then clamp spray can tops onto the horns.

Help please!
Spent 6 hours trying to trouble shoot ac
Vent temps 90-100 degrees (same as ambient)
Heater boxes are closed both sides under car
Outside air vents closed and checked
Mixer box no hot air entering
Condenser and evap fans working
Compressor engaging
Low and high pressures at normal levels for temp
???
What could it be. I am at a total loss. I have exhausted every troubleshooting guide.
Anyone? Dying of heat here.

I'm guessing this is just a matter of terminology, but in my mind the heater boxes should be open. Meaning you can see into them from the bottom of the car and they are directing hot air to ambient, with the flapper to the front blocked. I'm assuming they are in this position?

It sounds like your expansion valve might be clogged or excessive air/moisture in the system, but you say your pressures are normal so that's not it. Can you post what those pressures are.
