SC Engine Removal

Does anyone know how high a 911 needs to be raised to allow for enough clearance to remove the engine? The car is a 1982 SC with CIS. I would be measuring from the bottom of the engine immediately next to the oil drain plug (or could also measure from the bottom lip of the (stock) bumper.

Thank You,

Lindy

I've heard 32" from the bottom of the rear bumper.

Here's the NOVA Pelican engine drop trick, perfected at Marcesq's Garage and Grill:

- Use two Sears jacks on jack plates either side of the car
- Lift both sides together to the limit of the jacks
- Support on jackstands
- Add a length of 4x4 lumber between the jacks and jackplates
- Lift both sides together to final height
- Support on jackstands

This gives you all the room you need and some extra room for those pesky undercar disconnect/connect jobs.

About this high! I thinking it was 34", from memory.

I started the jacking with the usual 1-1/2 ton jack stands, then had to run out and get the big ones. I suggest you invest in some of the larger stands. They're not that expensive and it's worth the peace of mind.

If you remove the CIS ribbed boot and cover the TB and air plate with rags, you'll gain a bit more room.

Depending on your front spoiler, you may want to put something under your front wheels so when you jack the car, the front spoiler doesn't hit the floor.

34" is what I've been told. Another hint: Go to Home Depot and buy a $20 furniture dolly. You can actually raise the floor jack up in the middle of the dolly, and then when you lower it, you can roll the engine around on the dolly. It works pretty slick.
