Post porsche Cab Hardtop....fact..or myth?

Did porsche make a Cab Hardtop for the 911's before the 996?

I have heard that they did not.. but i see this description of one in the 12/91 Christophorus.

Anyone know for sure? or seen one?

According to my 74-89 911/912/930 Authenticity Series book by Mark Haab, the removable hard top was available for all years of the cabriolet top. The top came with a heated rear window and was a $9K option. It also states that a different top was used from 1986 and later cars that did not fit the earlier cars. It also states it was not a popular option because the cab top had to be removed to install it.
I don't know about post 89 cars, but if you pick up an authenticity book for those years, it probably talks about the top.

Bruce Anderson's Performance Handbook also mentions the removable hard top as an option from the Special Wishes program for speedsters. Bruce includes a picture of the speedster with the top installed.

I've only seen one car for sale that had the removable hard top.

They do exist. I saw a customer's 88 Turbo Cab with its hard top installed at a repair shop here in Dallas. The owner ordered it with the car new but I believe it may have been through the special wishes program. It looked perfect.

Hardtop was apparently available for the 3.2 but it had to be custom fitted at the factory.

I posted the color pics from an '88 PCNA accessories brochure that came from Stoddard's in this thread and stirred up a bit of interest back in July:

Hello

It was in fact a factory option that cost the same like the convertible upgrade.

It is simple a modificatet Steelroof witch uses normal Glas.

The complete convertible top had to be removed to put the Hardtop on.

I know a Porsche dealer who is storing the softtop for a Hardtop convertible since the car was delivered. Guess the car didn´t have very much milage

WST Wiesmann also offered a Hardtop but made from Glasfibre/Aluminium composite. This idear and look was duplicatet by Strossek as well.

Bauer once showed a clever hardwindow version.
Had seen it on there inhouse fair but never heard if they sold it. Maybe they had to much work with the Mercedes and BMW´s.

Grüsse,
Roland

I recall seeing one of those at a dealer 10-15 years ago.

It was, I think, around $6500.

If this isn't a solution for a non-existant problem, I don't know what is.

found one - cab hartop

how about this! i found a cab hardtop. but the timing is wrong for me to buy it. maybe someone else would be interested.

I e-mailed the guy at this web site and he said "Yes, you may have it, it is still new and available for ? 2680. Georg Konradsheim " office@konradsheim.at

I am not sure if he means dollars or some other currency. I think the top is in Switzerland. Here is the Web Site where I found it.
http://www.konradsheim.at/aktuell/aktuell.html#

good luck to anyone interested.

As the pictures show this was definitely real; I remember seeing it when selling at Porsche dealer in '86-'87, always wondered if they ever actually sold one for that price. It is cool looking but pretty pre-historic compared w/ the set-ups they have now.

According to my "Porsche Boutique & Accessories Catalog" brochure for 1989 the hardtop part number and cost is:

1983-85 911 561 901 00 $6,596.70
1985-89 911 561 901 01 $6,687.30

These are, of course, the prices in 1989. I have no explanation why 1985 is mentioned for both parts, much less the pesky SC from 1983. Also, why did they worry about prices to the penny? Most have been some goofy accountant having fun with the brochure...
