Stripped trans mount?

What is a good fix for the captured nut in the chassis transmission mount being stripped out?

Is there a helicoil or insert of some sort?

Cheers Richard

Longer bolt with a nut on the end.

tevake..yes the best is to use helicoil...

never mind 911-rod, you cannot put a longer bolt and nut on the transmission mounts....

I don't think it is a capture nut, but tapped threads into the body. You can use helicoil or timesert.

I did this about a month ago. Use helicoil and some red locktight. worked great. I removed the trans mount to allow more access to make drilling easier. If mounts are dry rotted its a good time to replace them while you are down there.

Thanks for the input Guys, appreciated.

No worries 911Rod, I spent 3 hrs in the dentist chair today. Some days are better than others.

Cheers Richard

TimeSert it. Not a big fan of helicoils. The kit is expensive so see if you can borrow it from one of your buddies.

Tip: When installing the motor+transmission, loosen the 4 nuts on the transmission bracket before installing the big transmission bolts.

How damaged are the threads? If just chewed up a little, and not completely stripped (sounds kinky, I know! ), you may be able to salvage them using a homemade thread chaser. If you do a google search for "thread chaser" you'll see a lot of pics of what I'm talking about (if you're not familiar with them).

I got one in # 1 heads and one in the body on the driver side for the big transmission mount bolt.

Timeserts are soft. Heli-coils are hard. As much as I don't like H-Cs in most apps, i'd use it there. The problem is that the hole isn't very deep, so when you tap for the H-C, the bottom threads are not finished, so you need a bottom tap to finish.

Thanks John, for that important detail.
I haven't done either , so have some study to do.
About time I learned about these processes.

Yes ChrisBennet, I can see how having to he trans mount crossmember loosened a bit would help.

Oh, I just moved to a new place in Fl. Don't know a single car guy here yet. So totally on my own with this.

Cheers Richard.

I more often found that the bolts were defective and the threads eaten so they wouldn’t hold.
You ll need a 12x1.5x50, grind a point or double washer.
