Ruf's new greenbird?
![]() ![]() ![]() Unlike the Singer, this just looks off in so many areas, the modernization doesn't "feel" right in my opinion. The wheels are simply too big, the 993 mirrors did modern better than these and the LED tail lights somehow detract from the car instead of adding to its ethos. The roof and fenders are nicely sculpted and they got the bumpers very right though. Last edited by McLaren-TAG; 03-06-2018 at 04:55 AM.. |

I agree with your assessment, many things not right about the car. Headlights to vertical, Tail lights seem to have come from a newer 911 and incorporated in. Even somewhat Aston Martin-ish. Wheels are to big. But I have never been a huge RUF fan.

RUF and Singer, in my opinion, are not in the same game. While Singer does quite a bit mechanically, they are heavy on the aesthetics of a retro/backdate theme. This has never been RUF’s interest as far as I know. I doubt RUF has much concern for comparisons to Singer.

This car, could have been aesthetically more than it is certainly given the money no object project that I'm sure it was. There are things about the singer I would change as well, but given the type of person that would be forking money out for this type of car, they're competing for the same wallet. |

Unbelievable. Brand new from scratch
I dig the new (classic, ) 911 look. Almost like the evolution of an aircooled 911. Like a 993.2 And I have to say IMHO backdated cars and reimagined cars are getting old. Overdone. Great to see a totally new approach on the car that I loved growing up.

Not well thought out aesthetically. Kinda like they were 85% done and needed to finish the rest in a day. Bet it is a beast though.

The interior, clad entirely in alcantara, is HORRID.

Totally agree about the wheels--they are cartoonishly large. The rest of the car is OK, but doesn't bowl me over. It's hard to improve on a classic design, iddnit?

Love to see real world performance numbers, say on closed circuit as well as open road in & out on city roads, I've always appreciated Ruf's vehicles, highly respected & true to Porsche form & function

- "Too vertical headlights"
Same as all 89 and earlier. Bet you can put them on an early car too. (With some headlight bucket mods.) - "Cartoonishly large" wheels... You can thank what ever perverse style has put 19" and 20" wheels on the average car. That is what is mainstream. No sidewalls on cars that aren't 10/10ths corner burners is stupid, harsh, and subject to tire failure at any pothole. But the public's idea of "cool" spoke a couple decades ago so of course a high end sports car will have big wheels... -------------------- I wish there was a pic from higher. Is the rear wheel-arch scoop a NACA duct (A la Yellowbird) or is it more like the RT12? In general I like it. (Even more with Bill's CAD render. ) The LED tail lights are... ...LED tail lights. They are so new and have no constraints on styling so I suspect it will be a decade before things settle down and they start to have some real style besides designers going a bit overboard.

I see they changed the crumple notches in the structure going to the bumper between the CAD drawing and the chassis shown above.
(You can also recognize Alois' hands standing in the picture behind the car. He really is the biggest car nut!)
