915 Limited Slip Differential
Selling the original 915 LSD out of my 1986 Carrera 3.2. It was replaced by a Quaife limited slip diff when the transmission was rebuilt in the early 2000's. The 915 diff is worn and will need to be rebuilt.
The number on the casing is: 4061006312 153916 $1000 plus shipping within the USA, paid via PayPal. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk

When you say the part is worn and needs rebuilt, what would a rebuild cost?
Rough guess or a firm that performs this work would be nice to know to call and discuss. Thanks.

I dont want to make my comment sound like im being a jerk, so please read it that way. With the surface rust on the bearing seating locations like that, and the diff being worn ( clutches worn out ) I would think you have priced this at a very high value. I am not sure what used original diffs like this go for, but with being able to buy cheap ones for 900$ and good US or european made diffs brand new for 1300-1800 and other very expensive ones. I would think that this is asking a premium price, Also I would think it may not be very easy to get clutches for it. However if somone could get clutches for it, on a positive note it would be a fairly simple rebuild. I think a decent do it yourself person could do it without issue. Is this truly how much these diffs are fetching now a days?

No, they’re going for much less in this condition
I just bought a guard lsd in perfect condition for $1000 and he delivered it to me I wouldn’t give more than $500 for a rusted old worn out and needing a rebuild lsd. Sorry. Tony |

If someone did want to rebuild this to keep things original, there is one place in europe I would think may have clutches. Maybe.... if the buyer needs help getting in touch with that company, then message me and I will pass along the contact info.
Also, I am looking for a lsd right now, so I am partially intereted, just a little unsure about the parts myself. I will look ask this company myself too. To better evaluate the part, you should look inside where the output shaft sits, check to see if its a coarse spline 18 tooth or fine spline 43 tooth style. Being an 86, it should be fine, but you never know what has been swapped out and changed around in the life of a car. |

Pictures look like a ZF unit which is OEM. These can be rebuilt by places like Carquip in Boulder and California Motorsports Inc in Lake Havasu. The rebuild estimates that I recall getting were in the $600 range but you'll have to check. Guard Transmission is no longer selling the rebuild plates for the ZF units.
The following is a great ZF 915 LSD rebuild thread by Paul Guard, the founder of Guard Transmission that gives a great explanation about how these things work. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=619640&highlight= I don't think the OP's prices are out of line for OEM - I wouldn't drop the price more. You could also advertise it on the early 911s registry. GLWS

HI Zero-H20
your diff has 3 plates in each side; 1X 928 332 555 20 concave washer £12.08 UK 1X 917 332 552 10 1.9mm external drive disc £24.76 UK 1x 917 332 552 11 2.0mm 1X 917 332 551 12 2.1mm depending on which you need 1X 928 332 551 00 drive disc £38.19 UK you will just need to remove the 2 screws and take the end plate off to get to the parts inside, check the sizes and replace the worn parts. put 1 drive flang in the vice with 2 CV joint bolts and put the main case of the diff on it, build all the part back into the case with GEAR oil, tighten the end case and fit the Crown wheel, tighten all the bolts, fit the other shaft and make some tool to turn the flange with a torque wrench to check the pre-load, should be 10 to 35Nm or 7 to 25 Lb

The link for Paul’s rebuild tutorials were for my LSD’s, great right up for sure. I had two rebuilt by him, still in my boxes waiting to get used.

Am I the only one wondering how this is a "factory 915" diff out of a 3.2 Carrera?
Did G50s have 915 internals??

An 86 still had a 915 transmission. The G-50 became available in 87.

Just to bookend this, you can buy ZF lsd Parts stateside from the dealer. Porsche classic recently put the parts out. You don’t need to buy them from England. Use the part numbers Mike kindly posted and go to your US dealer.
Also, Guard no longer services ZF lsds.
