WTB Scammers
Just a reminder to all, there are constantly people watching this forum for wtb posts. In just my last two wtb ads I’ve had 4 “people” message with recent join dates and 0 posts, always “contact this email, I have what you’re looking for etc”. Really need a way to screen people from joining.
Andrew

The only way to avoid this is to make members pay a membership like Rennlist. Therefore you'll know if folks are non paying users or active members.
Scammers will not pay a fee to join the site. my.02 cents. |

Maybe disallow new accounts from posting/sending messages to other people for 30 days? Or block them from posting on classifieds or sending messages to other people until they rack up a couple valid comments/posts on other forums? Just spitballin here

I fully agree with a membership fee. It keeps the scammers out.
I dealt with 10 scammers in a single day |

It will keep a lot of legitimate people out too. Just as in other areas of life, members will need to be vigilant. These are the same people that expend the resources to make a good looking fake check and overnight it to a forwarding address within your state, do you really think a $10 fee will stop them? |

Why can't we implement a rule where one has to have so many days and posts as a member in order to post in the classifieds and PM? Seems like the easiest solution.

Is it really that hard to just use your filter and common sense?

I agree, it doesn't matter where you are on the internet or even your phone you get scam emails or soliciting. I like the IRS or Revenue Canada omes where if you don't act you will be arrested. Unfortunately its part of the online world. Thanks Rob.

Diving in 911

Maybe a “report this member” button that freezes activity until an admin looks at it. For those of us that have used this and other forums a lot, it’s pretty easy to spot. What’s crummy is for people new to it. That’s a really bad experience with what is a great venue.

I always check their postings for non-parts threads to help assess legitimacy.

It may not freeze it but that little red triangle just below your post is meant exactly for reporting them. Pretty simple. Report and move on. You'd be surprised how fast the mods take action.

If the above isn't informative, or they don't have many posts, it doesn't automatically make them a scammer - but proceed with additional caution. The idea of making the forum a paid subscription, while it seems like a reasonable thing to do (I'd certainly pay), it may be more complicated for our host than it appears. For example it may obligate them to provide a level of service, introduce liability, etc. Just speculating though. Having a minimum number of posts before being allowed to post in the classifieds may seem like a good idea, but the creative scammers would just start spamming all the tech sub-forums with gibberish to get past it and create a mess for someone to clean up.
