Rare Mahle 95mm Cylinder Set with Pistons for Mag case engine (80 mm stud spacing)
Rare Mahle 95mm Cylinder Set with Pistons for Mag case engine (80 mm stud spacing)
Yes, you have read this correctly – a 95mm p&c set for a magnesium 7R case engine…… This will result in a 3.0L “cheater” engine using a standard 6 bolt 70.4mm crankshaft. The cylinder set is a fairly rare casting (Mahle: 95ZN1W3), 95mm bore with 80mm stud spacing. According to the known/trustworthy person I purchased these from, they were used in the assembly of an engine that was never run……this is evidenced by the sealant on the outer edge of the cylinder base, and the cylinder honing looks to be consistent and excellent, and the cylinders do not appear to be heat cycled at all. The pistons are brand new custom ordered Max Moritz style, 10.1 : 1, 95mm pistons from Mahle Motorsport for these special cylinders in 2021. They use standard 911 SC piston rings, see piston Spec Sheet below. The pistons, cylinders and rings are currently fitted and assembled, this work was done by engine builder Steve Becker, former Andial and PMNA employee. I was planning to use these for a special engine project that never happened, and have since moved to watercooled projects. Asking: $5400 for the 6 pistons (with new rings and wrist pins) and 6 cylinders, shipped in continental US. Feel free to ask questions and/or for more photos. Cheers Doug N PS. I have only taken photos of one piston/cylinder, there are six in total included. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Anyone planning an "old school" engine build? There's no substitute for cubic inches....

I wonder if I should sell my MK1 Scirocco to buy these for my 2.7 RS build. Very cool!

I showed these to my buddy who’s an engine builder and he said by his calculations he’s getting 14.5:1 - is that correct?
He said with an rsr head the CR would be lower.

Hi Would be great to see a picture of the underside of the cylinder, could I get a diameter of the cylinder base & thickness of the cylinder wall? Thanks

Hi Sam,
Spigot size on the mag case must be machined to ~100 mm diameter, as The outer cylinder size is 99.75 mm, and the cylinder walls are approximately 2.4mm in thickness. And as you know the 3.0L pistons are just under 95 mm in diameter. See photo......and let me know if you have any more questions or want to chat on the phone. |
