ianc's FS thread

Hi folks,

I am sadly out of the 911 business at the moment. I don't see myself correcting that for a good long while. Thus, the time is ripe (right before we move) to divest myself of some of my 911 stuff, and pass it on to someone who can use it. I am in the bay area and would love local pickup, but will ship. This is just random stuff that I have left. All prices are not including shipping unless otherwise noted. You can answer here, PM me, or choose email after clicking on my username at left if you're interested in anything. Thanks for looky.

Stock Bilstein Jack

Stock from an 87 Carrera. Great condition. $85 or offer + shipping.

Black 4-Spoke Steering Wheel Recovering kit

The Alan Gunn (reputedly) kit. Brand new. $35 + shipping; Wayne wants $50. PEL-PP-3192-4BLK. Crap pic I know...

Reground Factory Cams

These are factory cams reground to stock 3.2 spec by camgrinder. Never used. Bought them when I wasn't pleased with the 964 cams I got elsewhere, but it turns out the motor just wasn't broken in enough to let them breathe, hence these were never installed. My bill from camgrinder - ~$275 for the regrind job + my cores. $225 or offer + shipping. SALE PENDING ON THESE - WAITING ON THE ARRIVAL OF A CHECK.

I can see I'm up to my allowed 10 images, so on to the next post...

Factory Workshop Manuals

The Factory looseleaf manuals with some addendum. Pelican is selling these for $476 for a new set, and Lufteknic wants $610. Asking $375 + shipping. ACTUALLY, LET'S HOLD OFF ON THESE UNTIL I EXAMINE THE POSSIBILITY OF SCANNING THEM FIRST.

PM sent I'll take the DME test plan.

Interested in the manuals but it depends on how much and I don't know what they go for either.
(Let's be serious, I'm kinda cheap...!)

Sorry to see you go. Hope you will still be on the board.

Hi guys,

I have got all your emails and PM's. We need to go shopping right now, but I will be responding to them this afternoon. Thanks for your interest.

In the interim, here is the last item:

A set of stock G50 torsion bars from my 87 before I put the ER bars in. I honestly can't remember the stock 87 diameters; 19 & 25 mm I think? Anyway, these are in pretty good condition, but they've been hanging around my garage for years, so make me an offer:

I watched a 4-volume set of greasy manuals go past what I wanted to pay on Ebay few years ago and checked Pelican - who still showed 3 sets in stock @ $250 each at the time.

They turned up in grey binders, not red - think they were a recent printing - (they'd showed unavailable a few years prior to that IIRC).

I think Porsche would just re-print as needed due to demand. Who knows if that will ever happen again now? Rarity is probably starting to be a factor for these.

OK, all PM's responded to.

The bump steer kit is sold, so I'll remove it.

Sundevil64, your message says you PM'ed me two hours ago, but I haven't received it, so you might want to try again, or you can email me.

Spuggy, thanks for the comments on the manuals, I'll have to do some more looking...

Armas242 and Quicksilver - as above let me research the manuals a little more to see if I can find something comparable before I let them go. I'll keep you posted...

Edit: Looks like all the cam bars (P-202, P-203 and P-237) are sold for a local pickup tomorrow. I will leave them up pending the actual cash-in-hand sale and remove them when they're gone...

Hi Bob,

I'll definitely put you down as first for the Steve Wong chip. Are you comfortable just buying the chip, or do you want to check in your DME first? If you get the part # from the DME case, you could probably find out whether it's 24 or not. Steve Wong could probably tell you, or you could just look on his site (911CHIPS - Performance Chip Tuning for the Porsche 911). Be careful though, someone may have changed out the DME at some point in the car's career unless you bought it new...

Did a little more research regarding the factory workship manuals. As Spuggy says, it looks like they are actually out of print and rather rare. I see Pelican has a few sets left for $476, and I found another place selling them for $610!!! Yikes!

I think I should be looking in the $375'ish region for these actually. I'll amend the price above, but if that's a little steep, I may have to send them to the bay to get them sold...

Also lowered the price on the jack a bit based on some ebay research...

OFF STEVE WONGS SITE:
Q: My car is an '87, how do I know whether I have a 24 or 28 pin chip?
A: 1987 was a transitional year when Porsche was in the process of changing from a 24-pin chip over to a 28 pin one. The only way to find out is to open your DME and count the pin legs on your current chip. It is typical black rectangular chip with a factory matte foil sticker on top with a sequence of numbers reading something like 1267355xxx. Visit the chip installation instructions section for the full guide on the removal and installation of a chip.

I would like to open the unit up and check to be sure. Could you give me till Wed.? I'll PayPal you then if mine is a 24 pin. Like you said, the unit could have been changed out at some point.
Is the chip for a stock 3.2 w/ cat and 91 fuel?
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

Sure, take until Wed and let me know. It's a fairly easy job to get the DME open once you get it out of the car; you'll just be bending back some metal tabs. They did a nice job waterproofing that thing...

ianc

Edit: Yes, the chip is for a stock intake and exhaust with cat. I don't think fuel quality is an issue; just follow the recommendations for the car. I ran mine on h-itest\super\premium whatever u want to call it...
