Work Great!

Sorry Nick:
I said I would post a photo and forgot too, my bad! The photo shows Nicks strut hold up my IROC Tail without issue; and how easy it is to install and operate. I have them on the rear and front I have Cibie Hood lights same issue>weight vs. poor factory or aftermarket struts.
Note: I did not see any issue with my lid not releasing {opening} front or rear, I notice no change over the stock "working" struts at opening; but the real issue is staying up and not hitting you in the head!

A simple cure that simple to install and works.:D
Thanks Nick!

Thanks Art! I have sent a PM or Email to all those that responded. Here are a couple quick videos, the first showing how it works ,and the second showing how it's made:)

The following may be totally off base, I'll share 2 reasons why I kept a gas strut alongside the mechanical strut.

Got a tail? My tail car came with 2 struts installed on the driver's side and nothing on the passenger side.
This made the left deck lid corner stick out since there was so much pressure pushing up on the left side.
This summer, I decided to remove one of the struts to the deck lid corner would be pushed out.
But, one strut was not enough to consistently hold up the lid.

So, I eventually decided to try Nick's mechanical strut.

Yesterday, I removed the gas strut, and installed Nick's strut yesterday.
The release latch would no longer "pop" the heavy tail lid.
Now, while pulling the release lever, I'd have to reach back and yank the tail up to disengage it.
Nick advised me to adjust the male prong spring. I tried a few settings, but it didn't seem to fix it.
It used to release with the gas strut, so I was thinking maybe the strut was providing some release tension.

So, I decided to try keeping one of the gas struts installed alongside the mechanical strut. I didn't see any downside.
This way, the gas strut may provide some latch release.
The gas strut also provides some assistance when opening/closing, since without a gas strut in place, the tail lid gets heavy in a hurry.
Of course, the mechanical strut provides the support to reliably hold it up, which one strut wasn't able to do.
I also kept adjusting the male prong, so eventually one or both of these things now make my lid release.
This seems like a good compromise for my situation.

This last part might be my imagination, but I noticed that with just the mechanical strut, all the weight of the tail was being supported by the hinge, which was flexing to the left.
Now, I think the 2nd strut might be sharing pressure with the hinge by offering additional resistance, and a direct counter force to the right...reducing hinge flex,
and routing the weight force directly backwards towards the rear mounting point on the firewall.

I'm quite happy with the product, and it fills the gap between using either 1 or 2 gas struts for a tail, both which have their flaws.

Everyone that previously contacted me should have their struts in hand or on the way now. I have 6 front and 10 rear available for the 64-89 911/912 if anyone still needs one or a pair. I just started working on a batch for the 964/993 front and should have 10 of those available within a week(993/964 are $85). Thanks for all of the support guys! Have a great 2015.
