F.S. On ebay 17 inch 9/10 Ruf Speedline Set

Just a heads up. I found these on ebay and the guy is asking $ 5,500 for the set of 9's & 10's. So kinda interested in what you guys think - for $ 5,500

Gee is this what these sets are really going for now, it seems just a year or so ago you could pick them up for $ 2,500 to 3,000 a set. Wonder what a 8-inch/10-inch set would go for as the 8's would be a kinder gentler wheel set for steering/turns I would think.

So …. Now here's another set from a different seller for $ 6k again 9 10 combo set:

No way would I pay that for a set of Rufs. Don't get me wrong--I absolutely love the way they look (my car's long-term original owner had them on my car for years), but that price is ludicrous. You can pick up an excellent set of used Fikse FM/5 or FM/10 on this forum for half of what this guy is asking, and the Fikse wheels are lighter, stronger and look killer on a 911/930.

My 2c.

A lot of us love the Ruf look and strength. There is a reason Alois used these heavy wheels on his original CTR. Before long I am going to remove my high quality 18s and stick my Rufs back on. [Don't think that forged centers are going to save your outers if you hit something hard at speed. These early Rufs are incredibly strong.] Different strokes.

BTW, a lot of people refer to these as "Ruf Classics" now and to my eyes they are far more attractive than he newer "bling" version. I am certain that some people will disagree. ;->

Value? Whatever....

… well I posted these cause it seems like just a couple years ago or less you could buy these for like I said. They are incredibly strong and yes heavy but once your rolling probably adds to the momentum and the handling as well :') and in my opinion of course that understated non gold chain look that a lot of other sets just can't match.

… Smooth Cool is what I would call them. Appears there is kick for the 9's with the 10's as the 9's will fill out that front turbo fender without a spacer but I like the 8's personally cause it kinda gives that gasser or double fueler rail sort of look. A sleek yet deliberate front 8 with that meat eating wide 10 in the back and just a begging for contrast. My rant …. anyway think I'm gonna watch and see if they get any bites or actually get reeled in for a sale ...

You can buy them new from Ruf for about $3,900, you would you spend $5,500 on a set.

They are a different wheel. The "original" ones were made by Speedline. The have a step lip...which the "new" ones don't. Yes $5,500 is a lot of money but really nice ones are not so easy to find. To the OP, if you like them..contact the seller and make him an offer offline.

I should have addressed answering question about price. One wheel has curbing. Easy to repair BUT not so easy to match the finish of the other wheels. Usually they fix the one and then polish all the wheels to match. I personally like the all painted look, with the brushed look second.

These are clearly overpriced at $5500. For that I would expect pristine new in boxes.. and consider it a premium price at that. About a year ago I sold a set of 8+10s refinished by Al Reed for $3500. They still needed work as Al screwed the paint match up. My friend who bought them was aware and may have brought them to Al to get them to the 100% they should have been. Had I been trying for maximum $$$ they would have been sold perfect in the first place and not to a friend..and $4-4500. That's my opinion.

Good used- like the ones presented $3-4k. Probably $3500.
Refurbished to perfect $4-4,500.
N.O.S. in the box and confirmed PERFECT $4-5K

Over the years I have owned about a dozen sets. I still have 3 complete sets: 9+10x17, 8+9x17, and 8.5+10x19s.. and a several singles still sitting around. The only point being that I have a lot of experience buying/selling these.

Way overpriced !!!

$2800.00 for a used set is a fair price for used wheels.

The new wheels are also Forged, and quite a bit lighter.

Thank you but I already have an original set of Speedline Ruf 8's & 10's with the black logo caps. Just cruising around the internet on Sleepy Sunday and came by these sets for sale on cheese bay. My Ruf's came on fatnwide when I bought him back in 2001. He wasn't running at the time so I took a gamble when I bought him but the Ruf wheels came on as part of the deal. The car was painted black, the overall body and interior were in good shape. I trailered him out of the Arizona desert back to California on a rented open flat trailer and Uhaul box van truck. What a ride that was. As an all steel wide body Targa, he came with the 930S vented rear wheel arches and boxed rockers. The 8 & 10 combo looked great. When I got him home dropped the engine and transmission. Transmission lay gear was toast.

Cleaned the engine up and installed a factory 86 Euro trans that came available at the time with stock LSD and oil cooler on board. Luckily I did not have to do all that much and kinda Irished out on the deal. Installed an aluminum flywheel, MSD, SSI's, new brake pads and new B. valved green front & rear yellow sport B. shocks along with thick silicon v.c. gaskets. Found used 22mm & 27mm bars and installed those. Had to sonic clean the entire fuel distributor and injectors as car had been sitting in the desert as the internal dispersion pin was stuck. Also tweaked the CIS induction system by installing special counter balance weights onto the CIS fuel beam so as to make it vastly more responsive and in sinc with the capabilities of the quick n faster revving lighter flywheel. All in all fatnwide runs and performs very well with jus these few necessities performed.

Actually the Point of my long and hopefully entertaining rant & rave here is, I actually paid less for fatnwide than these guys are asking just for these sets of RUF's and put 1/2 this amount of investment of dollars into the car after I got it than these guys are asking …. Guess as a poor working stiff old timer and a dedicated and necessitated hands-on DIY, just gotta get my head around all this new pricing

Wrong size for a 930, but at least the price was in the ballpark!
