Engine ID
Considering purchase of low mile 1969 912, vin 129023453. B. Johnson guide confirms this to be US 912. Engine # is *4096681. Nothing 912 Porsche in the guide is even close. Can anyone help? I don't think it is VW, but?

Hi - 69 is a great year. I don't know the answer but the guy who might is the "Early_S_Man" on the 911 BBS. Search the posts and you'll find him pretty quickly. Another fellow bought a 911 that came, he later learned, with a 930 engine. Warren (S Man) had the reference guide to state specifically which engine it was and what year it was produced.
Regardless, we can interchange 912 engines pretty easily, have to me more careful with transmissions, and 69 have different CV joints. The Maestro has in one of his quizzes (HCP Research) that flywheels that work with one 356/912 engine don't always work well with others. He might also be able to tell you about the engine. Hope that gives you some leads - Scott 69 912 #3078 |

Don't sweat it, the motor is correct for a 69.
Actually the motor was built between March and April of 1969. Info as per Harry Pellow's "Secrets of the Inner Circle". Erik. |
