-3 cam gear or different case?
I have a couple of candidate cases for a rebuild I'm doing for my 914. One case had a -2 and the other had a -3 cam gear. It looks like it's difficult to find aftermarket aluminum gears for these backlashes. I am putting a webcam in the new engine. What are my options? Is it OK to use the stock gear if it looks OK? Should I kill myself trying to find a case with a 0 gear? Anything else I'm missing? Thanks!

Try a new size 0 cam gear first. Bolt it up to your Webcam. Then, mock-up the case with the crankshaft, the camshaft and new bearing inserts. Bolt the case halves together and torque to spec. Finally, check to see if you can turn the crankshaft by hand with ease. If so, you are OK. If you feel any resistance or binding, have the stock cam gear clearanced for bolts instead of rivets and go with it.
