Engine Drop Article Question??
In the "914 Engine Removal Made Easy" article, one of the steps is to disconnect the oil temperature sender on the bottom of the engine case.
Is this required? I'm just removing the engine to paint the compartment. I was thinking that all I needed to do was disconnect the wire from the harness above the tin by the battery. What am I missing? I finally got that dang sender plate to stop leaking....so I don't really want to mess with it. |

I don't think you need to worry about this step. Most 914's have a disconnect for the temp sender right near the battery. As long as you have the sender seperated from the main harness - you should be ok.

Thanks.
Maybe it's in there at that point because, if you don't remove it now...you won't get to it once it's sitting on the furniture dolly. I don't plan on messing with it...so I'll try to leave it alone. |

you know I looked all over for that darned wire and I couldn't find it anywhere. The engine ended up coming out without takin it off. Maybe I took it off and idnd't know what it was, I'm not real sure.

Just disconnect it by the battery.

If you're not removing it when the engine is out, just unplug it by the battery as everyone else said.
Biggy, the reason you didn't find the wire is because the 70-72 cars didn't have the temp gauge. Some of the 73+ did--all of the 2.0s, plus all of the 1.7s and 1.8s which had center consoles. No gauge or sender or wiring for them in the earlier cars. --DD
