Alternative rear trunk cylinder?

Is there anyway to do an electric rear lock cylinder?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. There are many electronic solenoids out there for the rear trunk latch. I have no idea who sells them, maybe e-bay.
I put one on the turbo but hated it. The darned thing wasn't very powerful and sometimes required someone to push down on the trunk while the button was pushed. I played with the adjustment and it got a little better but it was never right.
The best system I've seen was a mechanical pull cable that was mounted in the engine compartment.
I don't trust the electric solenoids on the 914 trunk.

I have a different solution. My car has the rear reflector installed and the electric solenoid was unreliable. So...I tied a piece of wire to the latch and ran it thru a hole below. To open the trunk, I pull on the wire.

Its not as secure because its not locked but it definitely works and is very reliable.

Thanks guys. It's not that bigga deal, just thinking of a few things to update the car a little.

People actually lock the 914 trunk? I have never ever seen one locked.

I know someone who installed a rear reflector that was drilled so that the stock lock was still accessable.
There are those who would not care for the look, but to me it was the perfect solution.

try jc whitney:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=170023&catalogId=10101&langId=-1&storeId=10101

jc whitney also sells just the solenoid for like 10 bucks.

i am not sure how strong jc whitney's solenoid is, but i helped my buddy install a remote door opener system for shaved door handles on his truck and the two solenoids that came in the kit were VERY strong. they looked similar to the jc whitney unit, but were definitely different. His have been going strong for 8 yrs. still poppin'

you can find those in Truckin' magazine from several companies.
the kits come with two solenoids, relays, spring-loaded door poppers, and two keychain type remotes. you could open both trunks remotely!

I just found this link for 45 lb. pull solenoids:

Not bad. I am going to consider this little upgrade.
