Yep, like that!
Oh, just to stay"On Topic" on this "Off Topic" thread, I personally appreciate the non-technical banter that sometimes takes place here. But I know it does cause unwanted reading material to appear in my searches. Sometimes I read it, sometimes I take a pass. It's curious; now that we have access to more information with blinding quickness, as opposed to twenty years ago when everyone had to crack a book, we get miffed about having to even turn the page electronically. FWIW, I wouldn't change anything about this BBS. Knowledge is access to information, and there is an abundance of knowledge here. Much of it is technical, some of it is social, almost all of it is wonderful :) This is not just a place to exchange information, it is a community, and I am thankful for it. Almost everything I know about my 914 (and most of the solutions to the various problems I've had) has come from this community of porsche people -- not just 914ers, but 911ers too. Tiffin Ohio is not exactly abundant with Porsches (much less 914s). This virtual community is invaluable to me because I have access to the thoughts of so many others with this one shared madness that most (including my wife) cannot possibly understand.
Yes, searches often cull non-related info, but I often sift through it anyway just because I enjoy hearing what folks are up to. I've gotten more than a few really good ideas this way. If someone has thought it, it's probably here somewhere. More often then not, I find that had I searched before I asked, the answer would have been found quickly. Even the goofiest questions are usually answered very quickly -- and no one has made fun of me yet :D The idea of "cleaning up" the BBS is not so much a bad one as it is a misguided one as we would loose a valuable wealth of information in the process. So, IMHO, bring it on! Spill your guts! If it's not so technical, so what? We can always pass or just turn off the blasted machine! Just my 2 cents (and then some) Time for a Xanax SmileWavy |

Teeheehee! I went undercover to last years gathering at jpIIIs and "borrowed" his idea!
3/4" plywood boxes internally braced with 2x2's. Glued, screwed, and very sturdy. I get the car up there very carefully ;) ...about 8" at a time (jack stands, cinder blocks, etc.) the boxes are 16x16x32, so halfway up the car is sitting on the box sides. Naturally, I forgot to factor in the 4" height of the casters, so upright everything is 36" tall. All it takes is time. I should've gone to harbor freight for the casters, but went too cheap. This spring I'm building another set that will snugly fit inside harbor freight "car dollys" (14x14x32) and a crosspiece to connect all the boxes together. Then I should be all set and have an easier time pushing the dang thing around... great for engine drops and working under the car without getting neck cramps:) |
Yeah Scrappy, what Mikee said.

Hey, a double scoop o' Lemon 14's! Nice. I'm not excactly trailer trash, but $4500 to avoid neck cramps would not go over well in this humble abode. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1073403486.jpg :D

Actually 2500 installed. The other 1/2 of the garage is an air hockey and ping pong table for the kids.....
Lifts like that are very common here. Most are just used to double up for car storage. |
- Insert sound of waves crashing, in a boat - "Whoa, here comes another tangent, hold on!"
- Hey Daniel, how did that shell / roller you bought work out? My buddy finally found the files he "lost" and sent me the pix this am. Nothing like too little, too late , - here's that sheetmetal and a couple shots of the wheels/flares - I can't remember if it was you who had the 5-bolt and cookies and wanted to see pix, but here a a couple. I have more if you're interested. The camera was junky, but it wasn't mine. I think I coulda traced the photos with a crayon and they would look better. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1073406370.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1073406435.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1073406476.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1073406524.jpg "We now return you to your regularly scheduled topic" |
Hey Scooter!
I got the shell just before christmas and have been working on it for a couple of weeks (until the other day when the temp dropped to 13 degrees:mad: ) Anyway, here is what I have to start with. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1073407715.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...boldyellow.gif Everything off the old 914-6 conversion will be on this car for a 1+1= 1 good 914 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1073408209.jpg |
I'd love one o'them lift deals -- $2500 still too rich for me. Them white trash boxes are more in my $$ range, but... the lifting seems a litlle scarry!

Great color choice, Scooter! What was that, an Apple QuickCam100? Those're GIANT pixles! :)
