Hi Guys,
I have fitted 3 sport comp Autometer guages in my centre console, that fortunately enough slip straight in to the existing holes. To match these, I am considering fitting a 5" tach in the place of the factory rev counter. Autometer do one in their sport comp range, and i have measured both. They seem to be the same size, but do you know if it will fit? Has anyone ever done it? The autometer tach comes with a casing, as it is designed to be dash mounted (freestanding), but hopefully, this cover can be taken off and the unit slipped in to the 914 instument pack. Please advise!!! Thank you, Luke. |

I have one in my 914 race car, fits a little snug but looks good. Check the race car article I have on the PP site here and I think there are a couple of pictures that show it.

Just drilled a couple of small holes and used sheet metal screws.

I have a monstrer tach in mine. Fits good, just used a bit of silly-cone and sat it in the hole.

No vibration, at least none I can detect. I did not tighten the screws as tight as I could so there is a little dampening from the material on the top of the dash. Good luck.

I use one, not the best pic but better than nothing.... Its got the small shift light on the tach. I don't even look at the tach anymore. When the light goes on, you see it in your peripheral vision.

that's a good picture, thanks. It shows what I need to see.
You just used straight forward screws too? I don't want to try it out and then realise I've made holes in my dash for a solution that doesn't work properly!!! thanks, Luke. |

I guess I used screws. It’s been so long I would have to look at the car tonight to verify. Please note the light on the dash is an OIL pressure warning light not a shift light. On the tach is a small shift light that works wonderfully.... So if your looking for just a shift light, buy the tach with the shift light mounted on the face of the tach and you will not have to put holes in your dash.

Thanks again, MJ. I think I'll go for the external shift light, as it looks cooler and will suit the look of my car.
