Eating alternators... voltage regulator??
I have gone through a few alternators over the years. The last one that I installed lasted about 30 minutes, then kaput... my first guess is that the voltage regulator is shot.
When I bought the car it had an unusual looking regulator installed, it was about 2"x3" and maybe 3/4" think, it was black and was epoxied shut. It was solid black and had a small wire with a connector that allowed it to connect to the "normal" spot, but it was bolted to the side of the relay board. A friend gave me a replacement which solved the bouncing needle problem that my Voltmeter was showing. Years later I am not going through alternators.
I just got my new one in from the guys here at PP and swapped it out. I have got my replacement alternator on the way... anyone out there have another guess as to why I am having this problem...
