Fasten seat belt light

I decided to try to get the "fasten seat belt" light on the dash to operate normally. Like most '74-76 914's, mine has had the ignition/seatbelt logic relay removed from under the passenger seat, and the two large ignition wires (Yellow and Yellow/Red) have been connected together. After consulting the wiring diagrams in the Haynes Manual, I connected the small yellow/red wire (from the seat belt light) and green/white wire (from the driver's seat belt switch) together. With the key on and one of the doors open, the "fasten seat belt" light comes on normally and goes off when I buckle up (good!). However, this circuit seems to be connected to the door switches for the interior light as well because when the doors are closed the "fasten seat belt" light goes out as well. Any ideas?

This is not a mod I would ever consider, but that's just me. However, you might get some insight from the 73 wiring diagram. The 73s had the light, but no obnoxious "no-start" feature.

I am not interested in restoring the infamous "no-start" feature or the seat cushion pressure switches, just the seat belt warning light on the dash. I think it may be possible with some simple rewiring. As I described in my initial post, I am almost there -- just want to eliminate the door switches from the circuit. I checked out the Haynes manual for the '73 wiring diagrams and I think I will need a magnifying glass to read them!

OK, I figured it out. Here are the steps to re-wiring the seat belt warning light on the later cars:
1. Locate the wiring harness on the floor under the passenger seat that terminates in a plastic junction block. It may or may not still be connected to the seat belt logic relay.
2. Identify the smaller 18 ga. yellow wire with a red stripe on it. This is the hot lead coming from the seat belt warning light.
3. Identify the TWO green wires with a white stripe that go to the drivers side seat belt switch. One is paired with a brown/white wire.
4. Disconnect the yellow/red wire and the single green/white wire from the junction block and connect them together.
5. Disconnect the second green white wire that is paired with a brown/white wire from the junction block and connect it to a ground.

That's all there is to it!
