Deoxidizing electrical connections
Ok, I had a mechanic friend suggest I buy something called DeoxIT from radio shack. I do believe that given the age of these cars, they would need something by now. Has anyone tried this stuff? He warned me to disconnect the battery before spraying anywhere as it can cause an arc and start a fire. Thinking this might help all those electrical gremlins we seem to get plus the stuff claims to put some kind of coating on it to keep it from coming back. I know that there has been some kind of dow corning grease or something recommended, but just wondering if anyone as tried this stuff. It is something like $9 a can.

Sure, it's fine stuff as far as it goes. So is their "TV Tuner Cleaner". So are wire brushes, and "ink erasers"--the erasers with little bits of abrasive in them as well. All of those can help clean up connectors.

Erasures (like on pencils) work great. I cleaned all my light contacts by putting a pencil in an electric drill to spin the erasure around-ggod luck!

After cleaning the contacts, be sure to use di-electric grease (also available at Radio Shack) to assure lasting good connectivity.
