Question Anyone de-chrome their door handles for paint?

I'm considering powder coat or body color paint. Any fitment issues (chipping paint, hinge, etc.

...who can do this?

I'm not sure how it's done but here's a good shot of a car that has it done. I think it looks great.

I want to do the same, only with the key hole painted. I was thinking it would be better to take it all apart before coating.

Leo - I don't think your passenger side can come apart much more than it already is...

I went a different route: Made a door opening mechanism that moves vertically and shaved the door with a sheet metal cover, painted body color. No more worrying about a factory handle breaking, and I like the cleaner look.

I would like to see some door handles in body colour. I am on my way to 100% chrome deletion.

If you decide to powdercoat the handles you can powdercoat right over the chrome, all you have to do is scuff up the chrome a little with a piece of steel wool and the your ready to powdercoat the handle.

Isn't the door handle pot metal?

Dechroming = Acid.
Acid + Pot Metal = Pile of dust.

I'd look into the powdercoating option.

My first 914 had all trim body color. I think the door handles might have been blasted, or pitted pretty bad (textured finish) and painted with auto paint. Held up like iron. I will see if I can dig them out of my box of parts and snap a pic
