Post Need tires...

My 914 is fast approaching the need for new tires. I currently have Falken 195/65R15 tires on it, mounted on the optional Mahle alloys wheels. I purchased the tires about 4 years ago, and they seem to be pretty decent. My suspension is near stock and I don't auto-X or anything like that, but I would like to find tires that optimize the 914's handling. This is also my daily driver, so I'd prefer a ride no more harsh than what I have now (which approaches "pickup truck-like" when going over railroad tracks.)

What are some options for decent (but not too pricey) tires?

Also, I notice that the right front tire is wearing on the inside edge more than usual. I have replaced my ball joints and tie-rod ends. I assume an alignment is in order. Comments?

I would check out Tire Rack for info on tires. I use inexpensive Continnetals for the street and spend my $$ on track tires. The nice think about the Cont, is they have a decent ride especially with my very stiff suspension. The grip is poor, but the ride quality is decent.

An alignment is in order. Also, check your bushings in the A arm.

Question

I am looking for new tires my self. Has anyone heard anything about the Yokohama’s AVS dB??? Sounds good to me. They are $67 a piece from tire rack, and they have the size I want (195/65 15).

Thumbs up

I use the AVS dbs. They seem to have good grip and work well in the wet as well as the dry. I just purchased a set for my 73. The 71 has had them for about a year.

For a good all around inexpensive street tire, take a look at Goodyear Eagle HP's. They beat tires at 2X the cost.
