Value of 72 914
Although I have tried to put off buying a 914 for a while, there is a beautiful yellow 72 914 1.7 for sale at my Porsche mechanic. It is a one owner car and is being sold due to the owner's purchase of a Lexus. It has never had any rust, it has a high quality repaint, flawless interior and is very original. Original radio and steel VW wheels too. Has maintainance records and everything works. Asking price is $4500. Is that fair?

Sounds about right, if its in great shape.
It probably has the tailshifter transaxle, and the smaller 1.7L engine if its original. Original FI? Carbs would detract. Orignal exhaust? High mileage? Just an indication of wear...but it prompts the questions, what condition is the engine, brake system, transaxle in? How many miles on the engine? Compression check? Any signs of abuse or unusual wear? Any options? Chrome bumpers/foglights, sway bars? |

A little on the high end, but worth it if all original. Any mods would detract value like Bowlsby mentioned....removal of FI and carbs.
A/C in some cases is a detraction as it was dealer installed as was the radio. BTW....A hood emblem is not original if it has it.... Records, original tool kit and owner's manual are a plus... |

I’d agree that it’s a fair price given all the above.

New info on the 914....
-60k mi showing, possibly original -been seviced by my Porsche mechanic since 1982 -recent clutch -aftermarket 4 tip exhaust, looks cool ![]() -a little rust in the door frame -Houston car since new -always garaged It is very nice and original, yellow with a flawless brown interior, a/c, no hood badge and an original radio. If I had the money I'd buy it. I've been considering it for a few days but I'll have to pass for now. I just hope another car like this pops up in a couple years when I'm ready for a 914. Thanks for all the replys, Troy 83 944 [This message has been edited by thamlin000 (edited 05-23-2001).] |
