Post Fan impeller timing marks

When I was assembling my motor a couple of weeks ago I was curious to carefully examine
the fan impeller for the oft hard to see TDC timing marks. I found TWO marks: a red line engraved into the metal, and an "O" ,(also engraved )a few degrees away from it. I finised assenbling the fan and when I was through, I adjusted my valves to the "O"
and then set my distributor
(009 centrifugal, to be timed at around 5 degrees BTDC at idle) statically to the other mark for a starting point. Did I do right here?

If you had a stock distributor, you would have done it perfectly. With a 009, you may want to retard the timing a bit (i.e., move it a bit toward the "0" mark from the slash).

1.7 and 2.0 fans come with (at least) two marks. The "0" is TDC #1 (and #3), and the slash is the timing mark, 27 deg BTDC for cylinder #1. (Also #3, but that's beside the point.)

Remember that the "0" will be straight downward when #2 and #4 are at TDC.

Or you can use the Wilson/Larson/Thorusen method and not bother with TDC, I suppose. But I stick with the factory method.
