914 Clutch Adjustment Help

Hi , I have the Haynes Manual . It isnt much help . Here is the problem . The clutch it engaging one to less than two inches from the floor . So , when I push it in to shift it feels as though it is not totally disengaging . I really have to stand on it to shift properly . I need to adjust it so I have a couple of more inches of clutch . I am not a mechanic . I am sure you all know how to adjust a 75 914clutch . Any information in simple terms would be appreciated
Thank you

Have you looked at transmission end of the clutch cable?
How many threads are exposed beyond the adjusting nut(s)?
Just a guess, but how old is the cable?

The adjustment is primarily on the transmission end. You take slack out of the clutch cable with nuts on the threaded end. Break them free, then use those nuts to tighten cable. Tighten them together(jam nut style) to keep them from backing off the threaded end.

You probably need a new clutch cable. I think you can get the clutch and accelerator cables as a package deal here on the bird

check the clutch tube at the firewall while you are under there and in the tunnel by the shift lever to see if it has broken loose.

here is a link to some clutch tube repair threads, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/search.php?searchid=1371028

Probably the adjuster nut or the cable is shot. They are cheap. The nut should be 13mm with a lock on it. Jack up the back and tighten up the adjuster a few turns. (mine keeps working loose as there is no lock nut on it) You would think I would fix that kind of crap. Not ME! Good luck.

I believe you'll find that the adjustment nuts are M7, and take an 11mm wrench. One of relatively few fasteners in the car that does.
