Is there a substitute for the 914 backup light switch? I've been told there is a replacement available from either VW or Volvo. It would be much easier to get one of those rather than track down the exact Porsche part.

All it is is a pin with a grove and little snap ring in it. The part no. for this is 901 303 017 01. I have replaced this pin with a 7/64 drill bit, ground off flat on the tip. I then ground a grove in the pin and installed the little snap ring off the old part. Works great. philinjax |

Since we are in the same neighborhood, I was installing the "expansion bolts" on my son's 901 xmission on Saturday. Before I could get to the 80 ft lbs Haynes says I need, the bolt "expanded in half". To my surprise, when I did the other side, the same thing happened. Is that a misprint in the manual, or are the bolts only good for one use?

That's my plan if I don't find a suitable replacement Dave... Pelican Parts is first on the list after the local shops. It's the expense and time for shipping to Nova Scotia from California that is making me look nearby first.
I like your idea Philinjax. Have to pull the old one out this evening and see what's happened inside there. Is it ok to drive with the switch removed from the transmission? |

If Iremember right the switch had oil on it when I removed mine. So It will leak, how much I don't know.
I personally would get the right part, having the pin wear out is better than a hard as nails drill bit wear through the transmission part that it rides on. I'm guessing the drill bit is a few Rockwells harder than the pin. |
