Will a fuel injection system from a 73 1.7 914 work on a 72 1.7 914?

Yes. Very much yes if you get the whole thing; I'm not quite as sure if you start to mix and match pieces.

IIRC, the brain is a bit different as it has a adjustment screw on the top on a '73. There really should be no problem doing this. If you can, use the air filter assembly from the '73, it's less messy.
