![]() Foam and material upgrade for my dash ![]() 914 added to the radio delete plate I made and covered ![]() Rest of dash with Pad and Material. Emblems are stick on and allow light to show through and around the switch. I am working on the dash pad now and waiting on my steering wheel.

Nice wheel, is that leather or neoprene?

I could not find a wheel locally that would fit my car. Grant does not list an application for the 914 -4 . They only list a 914-6 application. My choices were very limited but this wheel will look nice with the rings . Black Plastic is the construction and feels better than the factory wheel.

IIRC, the splines on the 914 steering column change. Possibly for the 72 or 73 model year. The wheel you got (a 911 application) might not work on a later 914, so it's fortunate you have an early one!

Some years ago, I installed on my 914-6 a Momo Prototipo I had after selling my 1973 RS.
Nice feeling, nice grip, but the wheel hided 50% of the combi instrument. Forcing me to move the head to the left if I wanted to see the temp gauge. I went back to the original 914-6 steering wheel. Francisco |

Nice dash. Wondering what adhesive you used to secure the material to the dash? i have used some contact cement in the past but it failed in some areas, so that the vinyl pulled away.
Steering wheels can be a problem. i like the smaller diameter aftermarket wheel that was in my old 914 (1970 rip) i saved the wheel, but it dont fit well in my new 914 (1972). the problem is that the wheel hits the turn signal arm, wheel hub rubs on it. This can be simply fixed with a small spacer. the second issue is the wheel leaves little clearance for the hands and the turn signal arm and wiper arm (early cars had the wiper switch on the dash, a superior location over the steering column switch!) Not only is the wiper switch arm close to the wheel, some switchss are closer than others. i have come across two types of the steering column wiper switch. one hangs a lot closer to the wheel than the other. (the arm has a different angle on it, than the other) One arm has a part number ink stamped on the arm, the other has the number cast into the arm. |

I used 3-M spray adhesive. It works best at about 80 degrees and when sprayed in a light even coat. If you spray too much the tacky never goes away and will pull back from material. The material has been put over a thin layer of closed cell foam to add some padding. I have also had good results with this in boats and planes.
I have had issues with a later model 914 with wheel fitment and ordered an extended hub for the wheel.
