car still will not run...i need help again...

i have a 1974 914 2.0.....just finished a rebuild.....car would not start....went through all the steps listed in the tech article.....okay here is what i have....new everything...car would not turn over....i ran a wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the stater positive post...the stater turned like a champ....what does this mean?...where the heck is the problem?....new battery...new wires....new ground wires..new starter..new solinoid.../you name it....were is the fault in the wiring?....okay...now the starter turns over but the car will not start....what am i missing.....thanks again.....john c.

Starter worked then did not.

First, always re-check the tranny ground stap

Next time the starter fails, carefully pull the cover off the T-12 connector located on the engine bay relay board. Then take a jumper wire and touch the large red wire and the large yellow wire. This should engage the starter. (be sure the car is in neutral). This way, the problem is either upstream (Switch, seat belt relay, etc. or down stream, starter, solenoid etc.)

Now, on to the next thing, starter starts, but does not run.
1. Assuming all the mechanics are ok (valve adj, compression,etc)
2. Dizzy out 180 degrees?
3. Check spark
4. Fuel pressure when starting
5. Cold start valve not leaking
6. FI wiring OK
7. Vacuum Hoses OK
8. Pull injectors, are they firing

The drive that powers the dizzy could be placed in side the engine in an inappropriate way.
I remember that I had to read the section in the Willson book several times before I had an idea what the guy was talking about. In case you placed the drive in an incorrect possition your static will be off. This way you might see sparks but they will not occure close to tdc.
