Rear 5 lug Hub kits?

Has anyone bought some of the 5 lug conversion kits out there? I am getting ready to but someones and would like to know if anyone has had good or bad luck using them.

I have my 911 frontend and just need the rear now.

I guess I bought a "kit" as I called up another vendor who said they would sell me everything I needed. Hubs, bearings, 914/6 discs... worked out fine going in.

I just bought a set of pre-machined rear hubs from GPR. $30/ea. I bought the studs and bearings from them too so they pressed the studs in for me for free.

Did they ask for your cores ?

I have been planning a "package" with HPH but wondered about a core charge.

I bought them from the GPR too, with a core charge of $100. If you are using the later style hubs you need to tack weld the studs to the back of the hub. There isn't much metal for the splines to grip to stay locked.

I was looking at GPRs "kit". Do you need a special tools to press the studs in? I wasn't aware (informed) of the free stud pressing by them?? Can this be done with a vise or BFH (Big F Hammer)?

I am having one hell of a time getting my hubs out. I destroyed a socket getting the large nut off the hub. WOW !!!!

Use a impact type of socket and a breakerbar atleast 2'. Then jump on it or use a piece of pipe over the bar to extend it. Lots of PB Blaster too.
Cost me $20 to have the studs pressed in by a machine shop. I wouldn't use a BFH to bang them in. Use the BFH to beat the wheel bearings out though....haha great fun taking those out!

Use a wheel.....insert the studs into the holes, place onto the rear of wheel and snug up the nuts.....then use an impact wrench to pull the studs tight......save 20 bucks.....

I like that idea. Did/do you still need to spot weld them on the back side of the hub?

No need to spot weld....IF the machining is good. The studs have splines to keep them from turning.

Also don't be afraid of late hubs. Never had a problem with breakage with them. I had a set of late hubs on a 200hp+ 3.0/6 914.....MANY burnouts.

I was going to say ... I've never heard of a hub failure using a late hub.

I used GPR for a complete kit. Core was $100. I did notice that the rear hubs were drop shipped from Perry Keihl9 (sp?). Maybe you can skip the middle man and save a few bucks.

Too funny about the drop ship.

I know where Perry gets them from, I'm kinda surprised that Dave Shepard (GPR) didnt have them in stock when he "sells" a kit.

I got a set of hubs and work done by rich johnson. the core charge was only $30 I believe.

A retailer is only as good as his machinist.....I ordered some drilled rotors, damn things took three weeks on a "rush".....I bet GPR was back ordered and handed the order off to PK....

Why, are, you going to copy them and pretend they are your idea?
