I was at the Tweeks Porsche-fest a couple of years ago. They had a VW Bug that was all stripped out, and converted into a huge rolling ice container for beer and soda!
I think that would be a worthy use of one of those 914s! -L |

right now, I am looking at the Bumble Bee LE in Kansas city! he wants 6000 for it. he says the interior is in perfect condition, with minor rust. my dream porsche is the Bumble bee LE so i might check it out.
a big snake was living under the orange porsche, hence the reason i only moved the silver one. I got on my stomach to see what I could hook the chain to, and I see this snake starring at me. So I let him be. I actually broke the rear right tail light when I was moving. after finding out the breaks did not work, and the car rolling down the hill and slamming into a tree(THANK YOU Bumper overrider!) I had to pull the car up, then once I got it on flat ground i had to push it with my jeep wrangler(4.0 sport) i hit the rear taillight and it broke Oh well, no big deal. for the silver one, the interior is in very good shape, I just need to it clean it off.

Don't take me too seriously, Scott, but I did live there for a year. That was enough. I'll take earthquakes over tornados and lightning any day. |

its actually illegal in alabama now to have a car that is not working to be visable from the front of the house. hence the reason my grandmother has all the cars in the backyard
I am actually from North Carolina, only here for school, so i am not a redneck!

BBq notwithstanding, I'd really like to know what rsxscott's intentions are now. Here we all are, making offerings of opinion, help, and humor in an effort to make his experience with 914s interesting and fun. What better way to prolong the life of 914s than helping another generation with their interest in them?
So, Scott, whatcha' gwen tado now? Ed |

to tell you the truth I am discouraged. the disadvantage of being young is not being patient enough. but I feel the better investment is to get the bumble bee LE in Kansas city. It will be worth more later on, and I plan to enter this car into some car shows which might help me out some(i guess I am part of the "rice" crowd with my acura) having only 3,500 dollars right now I cant afford the 6,000 price tag, my grandmother agreed to pay the rest if 1.I sell the other 2 porsches first and 2. I pay her back(no problem with a summer job) I dont agree with selling the 2 right now, but thats what she wants, then thats what she gets.
BTW- I think the silver one has Busch exhaust..or was now its rust. I find it funny that the silver one has all these aftermarket mods and my grandma used to drive it ![]()

Scott, with quite a bit of work & hassle you could definitely get a non-trivial amount of cash out of parting one or both of those cars. To give you an idea, I have sold easily $2,000 of stuff off the very nice 73 2.0 I bought recently for $5,000 (which the PO had spent probably $15-20K on since 1998). I am converting it from street hot-rod form to a "budget" racer, so I sell the pretty, heavy, stock bits and buy pretty, light, racer bits instead.
It's no CSOBOSC candidate, but in its current form, this car overall kicks-a$$ over my last one for thousands less money out of my pocket and countless hours less work . Buy a car that is either very close to what you want to end up with, even if it seems "too expensive" up front, or buy one that has valuable stuff on it you can easily and profitably barter/swap. (Like pristine interior parts, Fuchs, 2.0 engines, clean chrome bumpers, etc). You will save a bundle compared to a long, drawn out, life-consuming restoration project, and you can start driving and enjoying it from day one, while you slowly upgrade as desired. I guess I'm learning, slowly...

I still think you should pour over one of those cars, even if it is to just thoroughly clean it up, so that you know more about the cars in general. I hope to shout that there is a lot of junk out there for sale, even here in SoCal. Don't let a higher then average price influence you into believing that the car you may be looking at is solid. Some sellers don't know dick about thier cars, and, well some do. Those can be the scary ones. Look, I've been around cars since my first car, a '57 Corvette in 1963. And the 914 I bought had more rust than I could have imagined, even after inspection. Most of it is concealed. They rust from the inside out. Not unusal for many cars. Learn, learn and then learn some more about these cars before spending $6000. I promise you that these are not as simple as VWs. |

I'd love to get out there next year with you and any other SoCal guys we can muster up. My car will be nominally trackable in 3 weeks (in 4-banger form).

I really agree with Zeke that you should sell one and take apart the other so you can learn about these cars. These cars are not a simple little car like a VW Bug. They have no frame or body pan. They are just welded together stamped pieces without rustproofing. Taking one apart, will teach you some pretty good lessons on where the trouble spots are. The cars do disassemble pretty easy if you have any basic tools.
Boy, the silver car looks pretty good compared to the 70 I picked up two weeks ago. Those two cars are worth more in parts than whole from what I can see. Check to see how sound the orange car is..... Geoff

Since the Silver one seems to have alot of good parts on it(euro lights, rims, enine, tranny, seats, center console, dash, bumper overider. I might keep that one and use it as parts. For the orange one I am going to try and sell it as a whole. So any of you alabama guys can come by and pick it up. i will sell it for very very cheap.

Scott,
Does the silver 914 have air conditioning? Is that a condenser in the front trunk? Not everyone wants air, but there are people out there who would like to have the AC components which are hard to find. One valuable piece is the AC pulley mounted on the diveshaft between the engine case and the cooling fan. Don't give this away with the engine. The AC compressor bracket is also sought after. The AC system is valuable because it is not available any longer. Be patient though, you must find a buyer. Don't trash them, Scott. Sell one to John or part them out to help others and to make some money for your solid car. Good luck. Mike |
